Your favorite signs that winter is coming!

I noticed this morning that someone mentioned they turned on their furnace and the smell of burning dust came through the vents and that reminded me of the winter so please write down things that remind you of winter. Here are some more of my favorites:

The smell of burning leaves
That one really cold day in October when the weather begins to change
My nose starts running and I get sick
New ski movies are released
Turn the heater on in my Jeep ( a great one)
Trees lose their leaves
Apple season (cider)

why thanks, I usually use lavalife.com, but perhaps I'll try that next time instead, and I felt the urge to flame you in the last thread you wrote based on Pre-season training and etc. however, held back because I felt a bit more mature than that, not that I am mature at all. Thanks for keeping tabs on what I post though, by blocking the text and hitting Ctrl-C you can copy my genius sayings and then paste them (Ctrl-V) to business letters or what not. Feel free to give them to your 'little munchkins' or slip one in your wife's lunchbag to cheer her up tomorrow, no, I don't mind at all!

A-n-y-w-a-y, i'd say the first deliveries in the shop - all those new toys to play with and gear to try on - in september - even if just because opening all the boxes feels like xmas!

Thanks for the basic computer lesson, seeing that I have helped you in the finding ladies dept.
I always listen to the overly mature folks that are looking for girls on the internet instead of being for real and trying to hook up in person. but I suppose being a lair and a fake you don't stand much of a chance in person do ya??

i like when it gets cold enough that you can wear a toque again, and when you can wear the shell to your jacket...or those days in like early november end of october, when it snows like crazy and you have to go home from school early...

another good sign of winter for me is when i wake up go outside to get the paper and my nipples stiffen from the cold

when your nose gets cold and you have to wear a fleece or a hoodie. Seeing your breath is good too. My favorite day in fall is the first day where is is cold all day not just during the morning and night. The leaves falling kind of piss me off cause I still have like another 4-8 weeks till skiing starts.

hot chocolate! and passes start going on sale! and shorts are no longer in season, my feet start to freeze as i walk into school, and... oh yeah, theres those round little ice pellets that hit me too... those've got to be snow somewhere, eh??

the cold air, i just love it, seeing my breath, having the steering wheel be cold when i get in the car, turning the heater on, ahhhh, oh man the fact that i just got new skis, and went today to try on some north face and mountain hard wear fleece jackets, i dont know which one to get, oh man there are to many, i love winter

the first morning, u step outside, and see your breath, that first sunday when i need to put on your hoddie and beanie to walk to the store, when u catch urself dreaming in the middle of english about that first run, when all ur friends start to say its too cold, and your wishing the snow would fall

seeing your breath, is a big one for me, and i dont know if in other places geese fly north for the winter, but in wisconsin, when geese are goin north that means winter is jus around the corner, and the other day drivin to school, there were geese goin nort!!! yaaaaaayyyy

that first time you take a deep breath and your nose hair freezes together. thats the best. my nose controles the snow. I get my first bad nosebleed of the season 3 days before the first snow in the state. has happened for the last 3 years... and it happened this year. want snow. punch me in the face

-the leaves (the tree outside my window is almost all changed colour)
-my birthday (end of october - aka: halloween)
-and as you guys said, the calmness... i love the still cold crisp air in the late fall, but at the same time it's a huge tease... i hate fall.

The leaves change colors and fall, but most off all when i'm sitting in physics (which has no heating) and i'm freezing my ass off and trying to relate every physics problem to skiing in some sort of way, thats when you know winter is comin

last year in physics i tried to get my teacher to make up an equation to figure out how far a skier would have to jump (off a cliff) before reaching terminal volocity (taking weight, air resistance, forward momentum, slope, and the ocward shape of the skis), but he couldn't... stupid teacher.

Im pretty sure a skier starts to reach terminal velocity at about 65 meter or so, which incidently is about as far as a human could jump without breaking bones on impact.

You can totally tell when winter is coming when you start to see your breath in the morning. plus that feeling when you breath in and you can feel the cold in your lungs, thats awesome! Plus for us kids living in VAncouver, when it starts to rain every day, and then we get like a half day of sun and you look up at the north shore and see snow on grouse and cypress, that always gets my mojo runnin

For me it's the smell....I swear there's this certain smell. That and being able to see my breath and the first frost...whenever it rains thinking 'if it was colder out this would be snow.' and of course getting the first skiing magazines of the season...

I used to kill spiders when it was really cold in the fall because I thought 'hey, kill a spider make it rain' but no.... it can't rain now, it's too cold. So I'd kill spiders in hope that it would try and rain but would snow cause the temp. but then my parents told me Sinter Klaus was fake and it kind of all came together.

id say it definatly seems quieter, the air seems more crisp and not soo humid...but owell i got another ooo month and half till we even start to get any good amount of snow...

the mountain by my house opens novermber 22, there will barely be any snow but ill be there

Thought i'd dig this thread up.....

i've felt some tell-tale signs of an approaching winter. Freezing nostrils, frost on windows, coat season, etc. Booked Tremblant, can't wait!

Also - anyone from boulder knows what becka-ski is talking about. It smells like Greeley in Boulder when it is going to snow. So it is cool that is going to snow, but Greeley smells like shit.
