Just wondering if anybody plays and records their own music or one or the other? What type of equipment do you use? Mics, fx, keys, software?????

In my old highschool dorm, we had this band called Nuclear Pheonix. We really rocked it out. For recording, we used a computer using CoolEdit 2000 and some other mixing program, a really nice mixer, a really nice pedal set, an EQ and a soundblaster Audigy Platnium soundcard. It worked well. Nuclear Pheonix rules.

well you definetly had the right name! It's not as good as Captain State the Obvious and the ROcket Bastards but... hey! Right on, what kind of music was that?

When I did composition in college and recording performances for assesment we mainly used Master Tracks Pro, Encore, Acid, and some other freakin advanced like $17,000 software on these kick ass Mac's, was pretty fun.

theres a recording studio in my school you can rent, but its 35 for the first hour and 25 for every hour after that, and more for mastering and dubbing. I know a few rich kids in town whos parents by their recording equipment, but im looking to get a 4 track or something soon.

Ummm, yeah my friend was like really rich so alot of his stuff was really nice. We played rock music mainly, really screwed up shit though. Like it is all just a big joke, but the rest of the band is making a CD. Hahahaha. We all had cool names like 'Thor: Norse god of War & Fertility'.

I've gone into studios for both of my band's albums. It's expensive, but worth the money for the quality and time you get. Plus you just go in, jam, and go out, you dont have to worry about the bullshit, thats the producer's and mixer's job.

Yeah, I've done both. I've recorded in two different studios. The latest one being an old army barracks, very choice, plus a killer live sound! Last year, me and my Visa, purchased a digital 8 track, and it has been the greatest thing. Never do I have one minute at my house that I'm bored! It's a Fostex digital VF-08!

Yea Goldwave and Cooledit are your main commercial software apps. A lot of people who do video game mods, like warcraft 3 story lines use this for the voiceovers and other sound stuff. Kids at my highschool used Cooledit for getting their stuff out on the web, but went into the studio that one of the guy's dad worked at.
