Rail Materials

Sup guys, me and my brother just stole this rail from this construction site and i was wondering if there is types of materials hat fuck up your skis, cause this pipe is a bit rusty but i sanded it and it became pretty smooth, but is there some types of rails that you cant grind and are too sticky?
What the hell were they doing with a car on the moon?... havent they gone far enough?

make sure its a high grade of steel because if not...your edge will dig into it

yea, hard steel. If you sanded it down really easily, it may be sticky, but make it smooth and rub some wax on there and your good to go.

yeah, i would try it on some real shitty skis cause if your edge bites in you could rip the edges out not to mention body damage

if you want to avoid edge damage go with pvc piping...some people say they dont like it but i think it is one of the best things to slide...just make sure that it is well supported so that it doesnt crack.

yeah i would have done that but considering i JUST STOLE a rail i just wanted to know if it would be okay to slide.... i put my borthers skiis on it and it looked like it was doing some damage to the bottom, but that was before we sanded it and there were chunks of rust on it

Rust is a good thing... That means the rail is NOT alluminum, which is very bad to grind. I'd say it should be good to go. Just make sure there aren't any burrs on it, and bust the rust off the top. If you really don't want to rip your edges out, you may want to dull them a bit (round the edges so they are less likely to catch).

Yea we stole a shopping cart bin rail from Lowes this summer, and grinded it w/ the help of rink snow.

But yea, aluminum won't grind for shit, known this for years because of bmx. But yea a lot of rails are made out of cold rold steel.

use a hand grinder, then grind any part of the rail you think might fuck up your skis, then go over the whole thing again with the sander or any other blade that will smooth the rail, then put some rust proof paint on it, and when you slide it make sure that you wax it up, should be good then bro. Thats what i will be doin to my rails for at home.
