Alright, somebody had to make this thread, since it is tax day.

Anybody at one of these tea parties?

what does everybody think about it?

I would like to be at one but im working, since i have a job. haha.

the Media is portraying it as not being important. I think its a good idea. This administration is spending us beyond fixing. Obama has already spent (or is planing to spend) more money than all the presidents in this country combined!

what are your thoughts? how can Obama spend all this money while reducing our deficit? doesn't quite make any sense does it?

I am about to head out to one luckily in the city i live in. I'm torn in between both sides for the bailout but its the taxes that get to me. I don't completely understand how we can ttax the shit out of small businesses. Entrepreneurship has built this economy up in past years. How can someone even THINK about starting a business to provide a service where its needed, when there is little to no chance for it to work? Instead of helping those people who take risks and are the hardest workers out there, were giving people more money to sit around and receive a low income. Where's the motivation? I could go on and on..but this isn't about that.. the tea parties. yes. I'm off to one. The media claims that everyone going to one is a "right-wing extremist". Which is rediculous. I'm more Independent than I am conservative. The media has portrayed anybody who isn't liberal as this notion. Just a few....a lot...of thoughts.

im going to try to make mine after work.

Ive been hearing reports all day of thousands and thousands of people turning out for these things.

oh, and despite the media portraying it as an Obama bash, its not anywhere near that. All the reports if heard, from california, to salt lake, to washington D.C. have not portrayed any kind of hatred towards Obama or is it anywhere near a republican event. its Americans next to Americans sick and tired of this bullshit.

Oh, i work in a small business and will be buying it in the near future and i can tell you every single small business owner ive talked to is sick of this. We have gotten NO, 0, tax breaks from this administration. 95% tax cuts for Americans, have yet to see it. Obama has cut depreciation schedules and depreciation on certain large purchase assets, which is good if you even have the money to buy large assets.

Out of all the businesses in this country, 99% are small business. Makes sense to take the people making 99% of the jobs out there more doesn't it? haha

(actually, our taxes have yet to go up but they will soon, they have too, to pay for this administration)

There is one a couple miles from my house that just started. I am going to go for a few minutes. It is at a fancy restaurant and I won't be able to vote until the 10 midterm elections so I think I will feel a little awkward. I don't blame the people for organizing it at the marina on the other side of the interstate though because if they had it right in town a bunch of davidson students and professors would probably show up just to counter protest and make it look like an obama rally. Davidson the liberal bastion of my county, I guess it is because it's a college town.

The people at these things are fucking morons for the most part.

For one thing, half the people there are ones who can/will actually receive tax CUTS.

I also love dudes screaming things like "Obama's a fascist!" Then when the reporter asks why, he responds with "Because he is."

CNN has covered it pretty reasonably, showing it happening and what they stand for.
MSNBC just makes fun of it.
And Fox is hyping the shit out of it, as usual. In fact, they are having their own virtual tea party. Fair and balanced my ass...

Uhh no..not true. I don't know how you can make assumptions like that. My dad runs a private business and will be thrashed with new taxes. Like ferrin said above, America IS pretty much small business. Obama is making it a whole hell of a lot harder for small businesses to succeed. Go back and read the constiution. Honestly. We are straying from the core principles the founders tried to instill in the country further and further. We need to turn this around. With people spending less and less money, and small business getting less and less help, who will be hiring the people in this country for jobs? Want to know a reason why there are no jobs out there? Small businessses have no money! Where is the help!? Were giving thes help to the people who aren't looking for work. For many people, they will receive MORE money if they don't get a job and rely on the government giving them any, rather than working hard to get a job and trying to make a decent living.

i didnt say everyone, i said MOST of the people there. i forget where i saw it, but there was a woman asking them questions and pointing out where they would get deductions.

as for saying people will get MORE money if they dont get a job. no... just no.


but anyways, the main part of my rant was against the moronic obama is a fascist communist socialist etc. while having no idea what they are even saying/why they are saying it.

I very much agree with why the tea parties are going on. I will give you there are probably some wack jobs at these things... Fox is doing a good job on coverage, yes they are looking at all the good things and not showing the nuts.. but thats not what fox wants to represent. I think fox is allowed to hype this up and make the best they can out of it, because there really isn't any other conservative/right wing news stations out there. Because you know CNN would have hyped the shit out of a Bush rally...

so i work in a research lab at my school and the professor from the lab next door comes into our lab and says "ok this may be offensive" He was listening to NPR's news story on the Tea Parties, and the interviewed this one guy how said "I just got back from the Tea Bagging Party"

we are all science nerds and found it quite humorous

i understand every news organization is biased and has their own agenda, no argument there. but it wasnt so much foxs coverage that bothered me, it was their own e-tea party. at that point your not reporting, your carrying on their agenda if you ask me.

but definitely, i just wish i would see more of the people that DO have a clue. it seems that everyone i see (regardless of news network, even the guys on fox have shown some total morons), is just following the idiotic blithering of people like beck, hannity, and limbaugh, with no real idea of what they are getting all worked up about.

I went to one today and obama didn't even get shat on. The worst thing towards obama I saw was a poster that said "ill keep my money, guns, ect. you can keep the change". A couple small local politicians spoke and said we need to respect obama although we disagree with him. The mayor of my town did alude to an idea of organizing half the country to withold their income tax though. It made my day.

Just as it is wrong to label Obama as a fascist it is wrong for you to label "most" of the people at these events as morons because most of them are just people fed up with the system and peacefully assembling to let their voices be heard.

i have no problem with the peaceful assembly, regardless of whether they know what they are talking about. id just like it if it was THEIR voices being heard, not them repeating what they hear from their favorite conservative TV or radio host, with no clue about what the things they are saying actually mean.

I tuned into msnbc for a good laugh. All they want to talk about is photos of people holding signs that say "right wing extremist". I am a little concerned that lobbyists funded some of the events though as they said on msnbc.

I watch or listen to any of those people. I don't know if the people there did but this wasn't a crazy right wing event. Around half of the people there weren't even registered republican. Most people on both sides are too stupid to think for themselves though, they need someone else to think for them.

A big thing they were upset about today is the estate tax. Part of the stimulus bill includes a death tax on 45% of the deceased wealth. All of that money just so it can go to fund an overgrown federal government and wasteful foreign policy pursuits. Obamas foreign policy has ended up looking more like bush. That money will go to fund failing banks, allowing the government to pick winners and losers in the market. Most of this money unfortunately will be STOLEN from future generations in the form of tax. In the mean time that money is going to either be printed by the fed, stealing from all of us except the well connected because of inflation or borrowed from china which will in turn be payed off by future americans.

and yes, im for higher taxes AS OBAMA HAS PROPOSED, on people making a crap ton of money. my family falls under that, so its not like im dumping that responsibility on others either.

I understand where you are coming from. There are plenty of uninformed people who will speak their opinions but the majority of the people where I was at least knew what they were talking about if their speech wasn't already slurred. My tea party was more like a wine mixer and took place around dinner time.

The difference between msnbc and fox is astounding. msnbc only had negative things to say and fox has the fucking bags in their mouth over today.

Since i actually experienced this I don't trust my television at all anymore.

hes not a true socialist, but his economic plan has socialist characteristics, or at least more so than the preceding presidents. It really pisses me off how drastic people take sides on this issue. On one side, he's "The Messiah" while others think hes a dictator or a believer in communism.

i was hoping to go, then i found out it was during my afternoon / night class. but then i ended up skipping that and went skiing. so i guess you could say i stimulated the economy :)


but i do plan to attend my states tax cut rally in 2 weekends. its on a Saturday (much better timing) and last year there were something like 6k people there. (its kinda big deal in MN)
