I actually don't think I could do it, the only stuff I've done with an iphone had very very small programming and I only really know some HTML and C# so yeah my programming skills aren't very good but I know there are some people on here that could do it.

You'd want to have, across the bottom:

Home/News
Forum
Videos
Photos
More (searchbar, profile, PMs, Store, Member lists, etc.)

Among the top of the feature suggestions were:

Photos & Videos (shake to show a random photo/video)
Photos & Videos (geotagging and upload direct from iPhone)
Photos & Videos (Google Maps "locate" geotagged photos, etc.)
Locate (drop pins on a Google Map to locate nearby NSers)
Facebook Connect (integrate with your Facebook Profile)

With the right developers working on it, it would be logical to strive for 100% of the desktop features being usable in the app. Plus you'd have some iPhone-specific features only available in the app.

Target price: $9.99 w/ iPhone-optimized ads.
$19.99 w/o ads.

Considering the prices for contributor status and other exclusive items in the NS Store, the above prices would be about the most you could expect, but only if the app was properly implemented (100% functionality, a native-looking interface -- not ugly).

figure out who can develop an app.... you cant just ask apple to do it..
you need to find people on this site that can do it...

It would be foolish to start developing without a plan. You're gonna need to know how many potential users there are (i.e. active NS users w/ and iPod touch/iPhone). You're gonna need to know what the potential sales are going to be (income). You're going to need to research the formats of videos and photos on NS now and how they can be implemented in the app. You're going to need to know how to keep out (or bring in) new users.

The logistics should be tackled before the developing, lest it be a waste because so few users downloaded it. And while it would be nice to have it be a group of NSers developing the app, it would have much more potential, get finished faster, and be overall more promising if a group of outside developers worked on it.

If you just go on safari on your ipod/iphone, go to newschoolers homepage, then click the little + button at the bottom of screen then click Add to Homescreen, it creates an icon for you.

It's not an actual app, but more like a shortcut that takes you right to NS rather than searching through safari, ect.

I thought about this, and for $100 it would be easy to break even.  However, everything I can find about this developer software so far says that I need a Mac to do it...

you do need a mac, but my computer science teacher says it really isn't that hard to make an app if you know some C or Java or something. objective C is pretty closely related.
I'm sure there's someone on NS who knows how to do it.
