Freeride World Tour
Posted by TEAM MANAGER - FREERIDE WORLD TOUR - 2009 DUCROZ & ENDERUD FREERIDE WORLD CHAMPIONS! BARKERED 2nd IN OVERALL STANDINGS! The Freeride World Tour 2009 came to an end with an amazing fourth stage and grand finale: the Nissan Xtreme - Verbier. Frenchman Aurélien Ducroz, a Dynastar skier, became the 2009 Freeride World Champion with a incredible victory on the Bec des Rosses. Reine Barkered, the Swedish Dynastar skier who won in Squaw Valley, took 2nd in the Verbier Xtreme and as well as 2nd place in the overall Freeride World Tour. In the women's competition, Norwegian Dynastar skier, Ane Enderud, dominated and became the Freeride World Champion. And last but not least, Raphi Gillioz, a Swiss Dynastar skier from Verbier, took 3rd at the Verbier Xtreme -- just behind Reine and Aurélien. Dynastar athletes, on Legend skis filled the podium in Verbier and won 2 World Champions titles! Congratulations to our athletes and thank you for your commitment, your passion, performance and true talent. AURELIEN DUCROZ: 2009 FREERIDE WORLD CHAMPION & WINS VERBIER XTREME! Aurélien Ducroz lead the overall standings before the stage in Verbier, brought honor to his "Golden Bib" with a historic run. The windblown Bec des Rosses face, with 55° slopes, was tougher than usual. Aurélien, on his Legend Pro Rider skis chose a really challenging line. After his podiums at the Nissan Russian Adventure (2nd) and the Nissan Tram Face in Squaw Valley (3rd), Ducroz was victorious in Verbier. Like his winning run in 2006, he revealed his mastery and ease on such steep slopes. Very emotional at the awards ceremony, Aurelien claimed his spot as the discipline leader. After 3-years, he finally clinched the World Champion Title that he truly deserves. REINE BARKERED: 2nd IN VERBIER XTREME & WORLD FREERIDE TOUR OVERALL STANDINGS! In the men's competition, Reine Barkered (SWE) surprised us all this season with his win in Squaw Valley. He concluded the competition with a run packed with lots of quick jumps. The win in Squaw plus his 2nd in Verbier put him in second place in overall standings of the 2009 Freeride World Tour -- just ahead of his compatriot Sverre Liliequist, who won in Sochi. ANE ENDERUD: WINNER VERBIER XTREME & FREERIDE WORLD CHAMPION! Encouraged by her entire family who came all the way from Norway, Ane Enderud, chose a creative line with impressive jumps. Thanks to her victory in Verbier, she took her first Freeride World Champion title just ahead of Marja Persson (SWE) and Jess McMillan (USA), who were all on the podium of the Nissan Xtreme - Verbier. RAPHI GILLIOZ, 3rd IN VERBIER XTREME! Raphi Gillioz (SUI), Verbier mountain guide and head of the ski patrol in the Mont Fort area mesmerized the huge crowd that gathered at the Col de Gentianes to admire the 14th edition of this legendary competition. By choosing the central line, of which he alone knew the secrets, he climbed to the third step of the podium. Dynastar filled the podium! Great results and exciting for the Mont Blanc brand that is a pioneer in freeride ski development; a brand fully commited to the freeride discipline and a reference in the ski industry with the Legend series. JUSTIN DOREY SEASON UPDATE!
Posted by TEAM MANAGER - Hey everybody, Sorry I haven’t updated you sooner on what’s been going on with me lately, it’s been a pretty crazy last few weeks. I’ll start with the last dew tour stop at Northstar on February 18-22. Even though I didn’t end up getting a result at the event, I ended up placing 3rd in the overall and feel like I really made an impact on halfpipe skiing. I crashed on both my runs, my first run I decked on my first hit then my second run I went down on my fourth hit attempting a unnatural double flip. I think I got more exposure from doing two double flips in one run than I would have, had I skied conservatively and got 2nd or 3rd place though. The next day we hopped on a flight and flew to Colorado to do the US Open. In the past few years the US Open has been going downhill and becoming less and less of a respectable event. This year however, to our surprise, the event was awesome (besides the fact that it is the only event in the history of our sport where they charge an entry fee for invited athletes… and the prize money is about 1/3 the amount as the dew tours). The weather was terrible for qualifiers but it cleared up for finals and the pipe was in perfect conditions. Seeing as Tanner, Simon, Kevin, and Xavier were not there I wasn’t expecting the level of skiing to be nearly as high as any other contest this year, but was I ever wrong. It seemed like everyone in finals was putting down podium runs, which made it extremely hard for the judges to do their job. Due to a bad crash in training I only did my first 2 out of 3 finals runs but landed both of them and ended up getting the two highest scores of my life, a 95.4 on my first run and a 96.6 on my second. It was the first contest I have won in 4 years so I was STOKED! As soon as the contest ended we jumped in our truck and drove to Denver to fly out to Japan for “World Championships” that same night. I had never been to a “World Championships” so it was a really cool experience to go there and see what they are all about. The event was very well organized and the weather for comp day was amazingly hot and sunny. I stomped my first run but by the time finals came around the skiers left wall started deteriorating and it got the best of my on my second run on my second hit tossing me into the flat bottom. My first run score was 45.3 (out of 50) and I was in the lead until Kevin Rolland put down a really sick run scoring a 45.5 bumping me into 2nd place. Even though I wasn’t the “World Champion” I am still pretty happy with 2nd and probably got more press coverage than I ever have in my life so it was definitely a worthwhile trip. I was planning on flying home immediately after the contest but they convinced me to stay and do a quarterpipe event in Tokyo where I met the Governor of Tokyo and at more sushi than I thought was humanly possible. The whole quarterpipe set up was made of scaffolding and manmade snow but it was pretty fun. The event was an exhibition event, it wasn’t a contest so we just put on show for the crowd. By the time I did my last hit of the day, the quarterpipe was in pretty rough condition and had a big kink in the wall. I decided to do a cork 5 but popped a little to hard and got tossed into the flat bottom on my shoulder breaking my collarbone. I went to the doctor today and he said it is about as clean of a break as they come and I should be good to go within 5-6 weeks putting me back right in time for WSI. I will be at home for the next little while trying to get organized and healed up. Justin Dorey
2009 WINTER DEW TOUR
Posted by Team Manager - 2009 WINTER DEW TOUR -- Justin Dorey 3rd, Duncan Adams 4th, and Mike Riddle 6th Overall -- Dynastar/Lange has three of the top Superpipe athletes in the world. The final stop of the Winter Dew Tour at Northstar in California, on February 21st 2009, was an incredible day for Dorey, Riddle, and Adams. Although this Tour stop was not their most successful, it still had a tremendous impact on the freestyle world. Justin Dorey... Unbelievable! The first and only person to do 2 double back flips in one run of Pipe -- one on each wall. "The level of skiing is crazy right now," said Tanner Hall from the winner's podium, "The man who really deserves props tonight is Justin Dorey -- that dude is the future of Halfpipe skiing!" Justin, 20 years old, was unable to land his two double back flips but has given the world a glimpse of his potential as well as the sport's potential. Congratulations to Dorey, who still clinched 3rd in the overall standings despite his 11th place finish in Tahoe. Duncan Adams, 16 years old, had a breakthrough season and will continue his quest next year. He finished 4th in the overall Superpipe standings with a 3rd at the first stop in Breckenridge, 6th place in Mount Snow, but was unable to make the finals in at Northstar in Tahoe. Mike Riddle, 22 years old, finished 6th in the overall Superpipe standings and 12th in the overall Slopestyle standings. Mike proved to be a contender in both disciplines but fell short in the finals which kept him from the podium. In both Slopestyle and Pipe, Mike qualified in the top three solidifying his position among the top competitors. Tanner Rainville, Dan Marion, Alex Schlopy as well as young up-and-comers, Hans Wiener, Jack Sullan and Matt Duhamel are Team members that have also achieved great results this season. Congratulations to all Dynastar/Lange athletes! Mike Riddle & Justin Dorey Duncan Adams Tanner Rainville Mike Riddle at the Dew Tour Freeski Superpipe Mens Rank Name
Breckenridge
Breckenridge
Mount Snow
Mount Snow
Toyota Championship
Toyota Championship Total Points 1 Tanner Hall 100 80 100 280 2 Simon Dumont 70 100 90 260 3 Justin Dorey 90 90 40 220 4 Duncan Adams 80 65 24 169 5 Colby James West 20 60 80 160 6 Mike Riddle 24 70 50 144 7 Xavier Bertoni 65 0 70 135 7 Kevin Rolland 60 0 75 135 9 Taylor Seaton 55 45 26 126 10 Peter Olenick 75 35 14 124
