Overall
Face it, if you're listening to music while riding the park, you might find your mp3 player in between your chest and a rail. No matter what it is, it is going to break. At least with the shuffle there's the least possible amount of stuff to break. Even if you do break it, at least you didn't spend that much money on it.

The battery lasts two or three full days of riding on one charge, so you can just leave it in your jacket most of the time and not worry about it.

It's really light, so you don't even notice it in your pocket... its way different than skiing with a full ipod.

If you listen to music when you ski, you need something like this. DON'T think that your ipod will be fine. Trust me it is going to break. Go out and get yourself a little thing like this so you don't have to worry about it.

Performance
The shuffle works excellent as an on-hill music device. It gets annoying when you can't see what track is playing. Sometimes when you're looking for that one song to inspire a big trick, you'll be at the top of the inrun skiping songs and waiting to hear it forever. The good part about having no screen though, is its less shit to break.
Design
Once again, super simple. Just a few buttons on a white stick that holds about 90 songs or so. You can listen to them in order or shuffled. Thats it. Sound quality is wicked... I tried out some other mp3 players recently and they sounded like shit. The shuffle has nice rich sound, and if you throw out the stupid ear buds that come with it and get some real headphones you can appreciate the warm, full sound.
Durability
It hasn't broken yet. The lanyard thinger that comes with it to hang around your neck snapped though... that was annoying. The device works fine though.
Quality
Same as all other apple products the quality is great. This is nice and simple with no bells and whistles.

Thought id add this---cool ns addition!
One down side is if you drop it in the snow you pretty much will never find it again.
^ i actually dropped it in the snow last year, but i knew where ... near one particular rail , so i spent around 15minuts searching for it , and I GOT IT! i was so happy, its hard as hell to find once you lost it tho...
zip up your pocket
i hate the shuffle i havent ever dropped mine or got it wet. i charge it for like 3 days and it stays on for 1 minute then turns off and the only way to turn it back on is to jumpstart it i have to plug it into the charger then turn it on then take it out of the charger and listen till it turns off. sometimes if im lucky it will stay on for 20 min. even though its fully charged. ITS GAY
stop whining about your shuffle send it back using your warrentie to get a new one
Yeah I think your battery is just messed up. Mine lasts for like 3 days of riding.

i sent mine threw the washing machine and dryer workes perfectly fine
^ by accident of course
yeah the shuffle is AMAZING! pretty much everything bishop said is right on. great for on the hill
nice
go get a zen nano or micro
one time
i was setting up a rail and in like end of november in my snowbank and it fell out but didnt relize it like a week later and a few feet of snow later. i found it in april and it still worked
and had a full battery
Hey i don't agree, i've had my shuffle for 3 years and it hasn't broke yet. It's also only like $20 for a sportcase that i got which definately protects it.
try not to fall on it
you guys are all just gay. get over it.
i have the new one with the little clip in silver.
These things are seriously THE best thing to use if you like to listen to music in action sports.
hahaha my little bro found one of those in the melting snow by a rail.He saw it from the lime green thing on the back. It works fine
I think I'm gonna buy meow one...
Thanks for the great review Bishop!!!
new ones with the clipa are so bomb for skiing
i got the pink one with a clip, so steezy
the white was the problem for me. flew out of my pocket and couldnt find it in the snow
thinking about getting one of these for skiing since they're so cheap now...
ema
i have had mine for atleast 3 years and it works great, it actually can hold 120 songs (depending on the quality). also, if you are cheap like me, it doubles as a flash drive for school or watevr

the clip ones are sick, they hold plenty of songs and the headphones act like a leash, so you cant loose the stupid thing. i have skullcany gi's and a tiny little nano its funny.
