After logging in, clicking on any link logs me out. What's wrong?
Cookies must be enabled to use Newschoolers.com as a registered member. A cookie is set by Newschoolers when you login, and is used to identify you when you load pages. Make sure you either have cookies enabled, or cookies are not blocked for Newschoolers.com.

How do members include links or images in their messages, comments and forum posts?
Currently there are a few different methods to include a link or an image in a comment, message or forum post. It is recommended that you learn the method described here since Newschoolers will one day use it exclusively.

Comments, forum posts and messages are stripped of all disallowed HTML tags upon submission. This means if your comment, message or forum posts contains an HTML tag that has ben disallowed it will be removed.

Disallowed tags include: img (image), a (link), font, table, meta, etc...

Including a link is now very easy. Simply type out the url for the link and it will be automatically made into a link! No more messing with the <a href.."> tags.

To display an image simply type out the address of the image between [IMG] and [/IMG] tags. As example:

[IMG]http://www.example.com/picture.jpg[/IMG]

The above text will be replaced with the image. This will only work if:

1. The image address is preceded by [IMG]
2. The image address is followed by [/IMG] (with the /)
3. There is no space between the IMG markers and the image address.

What to do if the drop-down menus don't in your browser.
If the blue drop-down menu near the top of the site doesn't work in your browser you can still click on catagories in the navigation bar itself. This will give a list of links for that catagory.

How to make an icon for the forums.
1. First you need to have at least some graphics experience, if not try using one of the pre-made icons and skip to step #4.

2.The requirements for your icon is that it must be 50x50 pixels and under 2 KB. You can use both JPG or GIF formats, animation and transparency are allowed in GIFs. Try and make your icon different so people can use it to recognize your posts. But, also try and keep the colors toned down a bit so it doesn't take attention away from the posts.

3.After you are done creating your icon you must re-name it to your user name on Newschoolers.com and place it in a directory on your computer that the title has no spaces in it, usually just your desktop is best. And use the upload feature of the icon page of the site to publish it, it may not appear right away but to see it right click on the page and hit 'refresh'.

4.This step only applies to people newer to computers or people that want to use one of the pre-made icons. First go to the icon page and find the one you like best and right click on it and select 'Save As' in the name box put your NS username with capitals and all and save it on your desktop. Then, push the 'Browse' button on the icon page, select the icon and push the 'Upload' button.

How to survivie if Newschoolers.com is down
Stay clam, it is your first reaction to panic, try and fight this and think clearly.

If you have a few links to other skiing web sites that you can go to occupy yourself try visiting some of those, if not I would suggest that you collect some, the Links section of this site is a good place to start.

Keep in mind that the odds are that the site will come back into service within a few moments, if not there will most likely be a page explaining what went wrong.

How to survive an Online_Alien attack
Carry a plastic spoon or Spork with you at all times.

If the online list says there is one less member online than the number of members in the online list, chances are the alien is close by. Be very careful and surf the site with extreme caution!

Before you learn to protect yourself you must learn a bit of History about the alien. It first appeared late into a Saturday night when 2 young Newschoolers.com members were surfing and noticed that the online list said there was 3 members online while they were the only 2. They barely escaped with their lives that night but Newschoolers.com was safer because the Alien was now known of and could be avoided.

The best weapon you can have against the alien is a plastic spoon-fork, aka spork, you should have one on hand at all times while surfing Newschoolers.com.

Band together in groups with other members, only one can never stand up to the alien.

If you have confirmed existence of the alien, have your plastic spoon or spork, and have formed groups for protection all you can do is surf Newschoolers.com with extreme caution and hope with all your might that you will not be attacked.
