It took long enough, but skiing finally has it’s legit team competition. Mammoth Mountain, CA, will play host to the 2005 Orage Masters on May 7, 2005. Eight ski manufacturers, led by their team managers have selected four riders each (3 guys + 1 lady) to compete in the quest for ultimate bragging rights and some pretty delicious prizes, including a feature in Freeskier next year.
The Masters will be held on a custom built course full of Mammoth-style rails, hips and possibly even some car-jibbing. Lined along the course will be each team’s home base, an 8’x8’ scaffolding set which the teams can decorate in whatever manner they choose. There won’t be any tight comp bibs either as teams are being encouraged to dress in a way that will differentiate them from the others.
All the info for the Masters including Teams, Course sketches and those aforementioned delicious prizes is available here or by hitting the Orage Masters link on the news page.
Of course Newschoolers will be doing it’s best to cover the event in it’s entirety. NSTV will be in full effect streaming the whole competition day as live as we possibly can. And, assuming anyone will speak to us, we’ll have interviews with all the pro skiers that everyone loves.

With the 2nd annual Orage Masters quickly approaching, the winners of the Orage Masters video challenge will be announced soon.
The Orage Masters 2010 has came and gone. Once again, Orage hosted an awesome event full of good times, laughs and hangovers. The Surface Dead Heads skied their asses off and despite some shady judging (sorry, someone had to say it) were unable to move onto to the next round. Our team this year consisted of Banks Gilberti, John Ware, Jeff Kiesel and Dania Assaly... all of whom, couldn't have skied better. Big ups to Orage for hosting the athletes, Ian Matteson for the photo updates and Evan Heath for manning the video camera. Can't wait to see some footage of the chaos otherwise known as the Orage Masters. Until next year.
Orage and Mammoth Mountain have joined forces to bring arguably the most progressive competition in skiing to date. The ORAGE MASTERS will debut this year on May 3rd during the 2nd annual West Coast Invitational at Mammoth May 2-4.
