Woodward Tahoe, which opened earlier this month at Boreal Mountain Resort, recently announced it has partnered with the High Fives Foundation for the fourth week of its popular action sport camps. The partnership is part of a concerted effort from both sides to raise money to support injured action sports enthusiasts and promote the advancement of action sports in a safe and progressive manner. Moving forward, Woodward Tahoe will donate $100 to the Foundation for every camper who registers for the fourth week of camp, which runs from July 1-7, 2012.

The High Fives Foundation, based in Truckee, CA, is an official 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to raising money and awareness for athletes that have suffered a life-altering injury while pursuing their dream in the winter action sports community. Since its inception, the organization has successfully raised funds, secured alternative treatments and aided in the recovery of over 26 athletes. It is the mission of the High Fives Foundation to continue to grow and become a nation-wide organization that effectively acts as an umbrella for those that participate in the winter sports they love so dearly.

Woodward Tahoe, an American Camp Association member, is the newest addition to the internationally acclaimed Camp Woodward training facilities & youth camps, which have provided training grounds and inspiration for generations of action sports and Olympic athletes throughout the U.S. and abroad. Woodward Tahoe summer camps are open to boys & girls ages 7-20 for full week-long camp sessions or individual instruction drop-in sessions. The camps will provide skate, BMX, cheer, dryland skiing & snowboarding campers the opportunity to train indoors in a brand new 33,000 square foot facility, and allow ski and snowboard campers to train on real snow. Woodward Tahoe will also be home to many professional athletes who visit the facility to train or to lead instructional programs for students.

The partnership is a natural fit for both parties. In addition to supporting injured athletes, the High Fives Foundation strongly advocates injury prevention through its B.A.S.I.C.S. Program Service, which is designed to promote safety and awareness through world-class fundamentals coaching and encourages action sports participants to start simple and work their way up. This program is directly aligned with Woodward’s objective of achieving action sport greatness in a safe and progressive environment. High Fives Foundation ambassadors, including Ian Compton (one of three headlining coaches), will also be on hand during week four of camp to work with the children and further convey the basic principles and best practices of training in a safe manner.

“Many people just see the crazy stuff athletes are doing on TV or on the X Games, but don’t realize the time and energy it took to get to that level,” said Jon Slaughter, Woodward Tahoe’s Marketing Director. “We want to join the High Fives Foundation in teaching our campers and all action sports enthusiasts that they can be just like those guys, but if they want to make it that far they need to be safe and always start with the B.A.S.I.C.S..”

The Weak. (High Five's in Cali).

The Weak. (High Five's in Cali).

Jul 11th 2012

I took a trip back back to Cali Cali. Once there I met up with the High Five guys. High Fives is a Lake Tahoe based 501.c.3 non-profit organization that is dedicated to raising money and awareness for athletes that suffer life-altering injuries while pursuing a dream in the winter action sports community. Hit up highfivesfoundation.org/ to see how rad these guys truly are. The reason for the trip was to host a High Five's week (Weak) at one of the most fun places I have ever been to...Woodward@Tahoe. Much fun was had and kids walked away with some knowledge and plenty of free shwag. Big up's to you Woodward, your doing an amazing thing. See you all shortly, -Cpt
