Shred The Shore

No snow at the ski hill? No problem. On November 2nd and 3rd downtown Kelowna, BC played host to the biggest pre-season ski and snowboard event to ever take place in the Okanagan Valley. Scaffolding stacked two stories high and a 400 person theatre provided a base for the monumental setup that was Shred The Shore.





Shred The Shore was the brainchild of Myles Rickets and Mike Clarke from Freshair.ca, as they wanted to create a similar event to ones being held in other Provinces, but with its own unique twist. Along with a massive rail setup, five movies in total were played over two nights at the theatre conveniently located across the road from the jam setup. Competitors and onlookers alike gathered together to warm up between heats to enjoy movies from companies such as Poor Boyz Productions, MSP Films and Voleurz.





When not being entertained by the top shred flicks of the year, onlookers were treated to a show of rail mastery by the top ski and snowboarders in Western Canada. Competitors threw down their best tricks on a 20-foot down rail and custom built flat down constructed on the edge of picturesque Okanagan Lake. Thirty skiers and thirty snowboarders dueled it out on Saturday to compete for eight spots in the finals and a chance to win $500 in freshly minted maple scented bills. As the finals began the misfortune of heavy rain didn’t deter spectators as they cheered on riders Tyson Oland and Jeremy Guido to victory.





With the large success of the event in its first year, Shred The Shore is set to take over with an even bigger and better setup for 2013. Aiming to make its mark in the Western Canadian ski and snowboard scene, Shred The Shore is an event you will not want to miss when it comes around next fall.
