40+ BANDS CONVERGE ON WHISTLER FOR FREE CONCERT SEASON FINALE
More than 60 free gigs cue the sound of the Fat Lady, singing Winter 2010 over and out
WHISTLER, BC, March 30, 2010 – The most spirited online debate unfolding in Whistler over the past month has been taking place at www.wssf.com after the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival announced its line-up for the Outdoor Concert series and Kokanee Freeride Series of free gigs.
With headliners like Los Angeles-based funk orchestra Breakestra, electronic art nouveau-circus rockband The Mutaytor, 12 piece jazz-infused rhythm machine Five Alarm Funk, a live reunion of Canadian classic roots-rock-reggae legends Big Sugar, ‘music’s mad scientist’ Keller Williams, Juno nominated hip-hop artists Classfied and Shad, and the iconic Arrested Development, this spring in Whistler offers an unusual convergence of sounds with an emphasis on spectacle and entertainment value.
From big band funk to one man jams to electro improv, it’s Black Rock meets SXSW meets ski-town this April 16-25, with more than 60 free gigs wrapping up the wildest winter Whistler has ever seen. Where else can you ride right into the ampitheatre and rock out with your boots on?
The Chevrolet Stage in Village Square will also feature a host of indie bands playing daily from 12:15pm, meaning a non-stop stream of music from noon until midnight. From DJs to jambands to highschool drumlines, the Chevrolet Stage will also be the place to spot the superstars of the future, including the Kate Morgan Band, City of Glass, Spotlight Carnival, Henry & The Nightcrawlers, Stars of Boulevard and Colin Bullock.
Even the Festival’s fashion show, Fashion EXPOSED, gets a music makeover, offering a shredwear to bedwear take on Fashion Rocks, with We Are the City and special musical guests turning the runway into indie rock concert.
The TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival is the longest-running free outdoor concert series in North America. For more on the featured bands, visit http://www.wssf.com/event/outdoor-concert-series.
