OKEMO’S “WHAT I LEARNED THIS SUMMER RAIL JAM” RESULTS

LUDLOW, Vt. – Skiers and snowboarders visiting Okemo Mountain Resort for the “What I Learned This Summer Rail Jam,” presented by The Killarney, on Saturday, Dec. 19, showed off all the new maneuvers they learned during the summer. The course setup was a jump box to a flat down box into a kink rail or butter box. In addition to a $200 cash prize for the best trick, top competitors took home new skis, snowboards, gear bags and gift certificates to The Killarney, Okemo Valley’s Irish Pub.

“All the contestants brought their A game,” said Okemo Events Coordinator Jeff Alexander. “Matt Schaffer walked away with the $200 in cold hard cash for the best trick overall, which was a switch backside 270 off the down box into a frontside board thru the kink to a late switch landing! Overall it was a sick event which featured some steezy moves!”

The winner in the Men’s Under 16 Ski division was Dan Ladd, 15, of South Windsor, Conn. Jared Coletti, 10, of Kintnersville, Pa., took second place honors and third went to James Maguire, 13, of Darien, Conn.

Parker Clarkson, 16, of Weston, Vt., took top honors in the Men’s 16 and over Ski division. Graham Bunt, 18, of Fair Haven, N.J., took second place.

The top snowboarder in the Men’s Under 16 division went to Peter Cerulo, 15, of West Windsor, Vt. Second place went to Emmett Ellmaker, 15, of Erwinna, Pa., and rounding out the podium with third place was Alex VonBraun, 15, of Greenwich, Conn.

Matt Schaffer, 19, of Brownsville, Vt., was the winner of the Men’s 16 and over Snowboard division. Second place went to Ted James, 22, of Proctorsville, Vt. Woody Rodriguez, 20, of Reading, Vt., took third.

Okemo’s “What I Learned This Summer Rail Jam” was this winter’s first competition. It took place on Bull Run, where a crowd of spectators gathered to watch the snowsliding antics of two dozen young athletes. With 74 of 119 trails open, and 14 lifts running, there was plenty of terrain for skiers and riders of all abilities.
