TC Triple Comp a big success

Wanaka, New Zealand – September 27, 2009 – The Treble Cone Triple Comp wrapped up this afternoon completing one of the most unique snow sports events in the area. It incorporated all aspects of skiing and snowboarding in a distinctive format that had all participants competing against each other.

“We had a lot of athletes come out of the wood work for this resurrected event. The jam format allowed both skiers and snowboarders to push each other as they raced and competed side by side. We are looking forward to more events of this nature at Treble Cone,” said Antony Hansen, Spokesman for Treble Cone.

The weather on Saturday set up Treble Cone with phenomenal spring conditions. The BASE Banked Slalom had competitors charging through gates set strategically through one of Treble Cone’s most difficult natural halfpipes.

TC’s own Klaus Mair took out the men’s ski division, TEAM TC skier Nicola Campebell won the women’s ski, Luke Dipina had the fastest time for men’s snowboard and Claire Nash took out the women’s snowboard division.

Competitors took qualifying runs on Saturday for the Harris Mountains Heli-Ski Expression Session. Judges saw backflips, 360’s and some innovative freestyle riding brought to this unique venue. The finals were set for Sunday, but due to the overnight freeze, the judges called the event for safety reasons and went off Saturday’s scores.

Taking out the women’s division was skier Sarah Gillespie. Former Kiwi Olympian Micky Ross won the men’s skiing division and Ben Wooster took out the men’s snowboard. These three left the hill stoked winning a Harris Mountains Heli-Ski trip each.

The Rossignol Big Air kicked off on Sunday in a jam format allowing competitors to take as many runs as they wanted in the two hour window. Backflips and big spins were the go as competitors launched themselves off Treble Cone’s largest Big Air.

Eli Pope and Claire Nash won the snowboard divisions. Sarah Gillespie and Dewie Stanczak won the Big Air for skiers and also were crowned King and Queen of Triple Comp with their combined results.
