WHISTLER, BC, February 26, 2009 – Skiers and riders have enjoyed consecutive powder days all this week as a heavy storm bombarded Whistler Blackcomb with the best snowfall of the season in what has been described as the resort’s very own stimulus package. The mountains have been blanketed with 82 centimetres (32 inches) of snow in four days – a season record.

The epic snowfall kicked off on Sunday night with 25 centimetres (10 inches) falling overnight – and has continued all week. All over town, skiers and riders can be heard bragging about their epic days and sore legs, describing the snow as “nipple deep”.

Meanwhile, an unofficial report has indicated that Mondays are the best day of the week to be absent from work. So far this season approximately one-fifth of the snow has fallen on a Monday. In fact, three out of four Mondays in February resulted in 10 centimetre-plus days.

With sunny skies expected for the next two days, the long-range forecast calling for another frontal system to hit Whistler Blackcomb this weekend, and the Showcase Showdown taking place February 28, there’s no better time to get up here. Last minute hotel deals from $125 per night and Third Night Free packages are available at whistlerblackcomb.com. Plus, let a ski or snowboard pro show you ‘the goods’ and take advantage of 40% off select lessons during Discover Whistler Days through March 13.

Consistently ranked as North America's top ski and snowboard resort, Whistler Blackcomb continues to raise the level of mountain excitement for its guests. With the landmark PEAK 2 PEAK Gondola opening December 12, the return of the popular Symphony Amphitheatre, and a host of other on-mountain improvements, this winter promises to be one of the most exciting yet. Located a scenic two-hour drive north of Vancouver, Canada up the spectacular 'Sea to Sky' Highway, this resort is home to Whistler and Blackcomb mountains, which boast one vertical mile of incredible skiing. With over 16 alpine bowls, three glaciers, 200 trails, and 8,171 acres of skiable terrain, the choices of where and what to ski/ride at Whistler Blackcomb from beginner to advanced terrain are staggering. Joined at the base by a vibrant pedestrian village filled with award-winning après bars, restaurants, patios, cafes, shops, galleries and spas, and surrounded by breathtaking scenery, this four-season resort is spectacular.
