POND SKIM KICKS OFF SPRING FEST CELEBRATION AT MAMMOTH MOUNTAIN Mammoth Mountain, CA – An animated crowd welcomed springtime to Mammoth Mountain today when about 75 hearty souls attempted to ski and snowboard across a 100 foot pool of icy water in the return of Mammoth’s Pond Skim. Air temperatures averaged a chilly 30 degrees outside Canyon Lodge where the Pond Skim took place. Skilled pond skimmers braved water temperatures that were decidedly frigid in an attempt to earn prizes and bragging rights. Less fortunate participants sunk their way into the icy depths of the pool after each unsuccessful attempt.  Spring FestOnce the Pond Skim champions were crowned, Spring Fest kicked off at Mammoth Mountain. Spring Fest is a celebration of Mammoth’s legendary spring skiing under the California sun that runs from April 21 to May 18, 2008.  With 2007/08 season snowfall at over 28 feet and a current base of 5-7 feet, Mammoth is just diving into its incredible spring ski season.
