SNOW AT PERISHER BLUE

It’s the last day of summer, but you would not know it at Perisher Blue.

Over night, a light dusting of snow blanketed the resort with temperatures getting down to a chilly low of –3.8°c with wind chill measuring a frigid –23.6°c.

Currently the temperature is –2.8°c at the top of the Forester Quad Express chairlift on Back Mount Perisher with intermittent light flurries of snow continuing.

Weather forecasters are already predicting a bumper snow season for 2008, with a mild wet summer in many parts of Australia stimulated by the current La Nina conditions, the expectation is for temperatures to remain low with persistent precipitation throughout the winter months.

This is obviously great news for Perisher Blue, “we have barely had a summer this year” said, Gary Grant GM Marketing, Sales & Hospitality. “It’s felt as though it’s remained cold since the end of the 2007 season, apart from a few warm days, there air has always had a nip in it.”

The overnight snow has not interfered with the installation of Perisher Blue’s new $9.75m snowmaking. The work continues, however the new snow guns might not be needed that much in 2008 if all predictions are correct.
