Sarah Burke Wins ESPY

Huntington Beach, CA. - (Ski Press) – Canadian Sarah Burke has won a 2007 ESPY Award for Best Female Action Sports Athlete.

Sarah received her special award Wednesday night in front of a packed house of the biggest names in sports and entertainment at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles, California. Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and Lebron James, the 15th annual Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards (ESPY) celebration debuted on national television last night on ESPN.

Recognizing the best moments from the year in sports, the ESPY Awards are one of the most prestigious mainstream multi-sport events in the world and draw only the most accomplished athletes. For the bid, Sarah was up against some of the most renowned names in women's surf, skate and snow such as X Games gold medalist snowboarder Jaime Anderson, seven-time women's surfing champ Layne Beachley, skateboarder Elissa Steamer and fellow Roxy team-rider and X Games gold medalist snowboarder Torah Bright. Sarah's win comes alongside other notables like Ladainian Tomlinson, Maria Sharapova and Travis Pastrana.

"I'm just blown away by the voters who supported me in winning this award," said Sarah. "To be nominated in such great company is an honor to say the least and I couldn't be more psyched to have won."

A Roxy team-rider, Sarah dominated the slopes this past winter with performances that were out of this world. No stranger to the podium at the X Games, Sarah brought home her first gold medal from this year's Winter X Games for her spectacular run in the halfpipe. Demonstrating her versatility as a complete all-around freeskier, she followed up that win with a gold medal at the Nippon Open for slopestyle and then first and second place finishes at the 2007 World Ski Invitational in Whistler, Canada for halfpipe and slopestyle respectively.

In the past few months, Sarah has been traveling the globe with other Roxy snowboarders and freeskiers, including Torah Bright, Erin Comstock, Jessica Cumming, Alexis Waite and Amber Stackhouse to film "Labor of Love," the first-ever all-women's combined snow film. Sarah will also be making a stop in Mount Hood, Oregon later this summer as part of the Roxy Get Outside Tour Presented by Schick® Quattro® for Women.
