I designed sunglasses! What do you guys think? - Calero Sunglasses

Well I've taken a bunch of time off from skiing this winter to work on the sickest shades around!

They're called Calero Sunglasses and our first model is "The Gator"

They're made of TR90 Grillamid Nylon (just like many of those $100 shades)

Yes, theyre similar to the Holbrooks I know.

BUT, our sit a little better on the nose bridge and have a better looking temple imo

plus you're paying 30 Dollars vs 140 Dollars for the same materials!

Why you should (consider) buying them:

-TR90 grillamid nylon frame, the same materials used in many of the plastic luxottica products but for a fraction of the price
-THE PERFECT FIT - I've gotten these things to fit a HUGE range of faces really really comfortably and I'm positive you'll forget you're wearing them....
-CHEAP- at only $20 we're cutting ourselves way low on profit margin and planning on big sales to make up for it
-Customizable, if you ever end up with a pair down the road you'll be able to swap out the lenses/temples/logos no problem
-Snaplock hinges, similiar to oakleys, our temples are held in by themselves, no screws required! they snap in and out without breaking

-YOU GET TO SUPPORT A SMALL PROJECT MADE BY TWO SKIERS!

I'm really not trying to get you guys to buy them but if you do decide to pick up a pair we wouldnt blame you!

Thanks for the constructive criticism! No offense taken, we went with these after watching trends at an N3L optics sunglass retail location for about a year (shitty job, would not recommend)... In person they're much more modern looking than the traditional throwaway wayfarer shades that end up on the ground at concerts!

good for you for getting a product to market

however, here's my opinion: you have basically copied a lot of features from other companies. whether or not this gets you in hot water, I don't know. The problem is, that frame is very similar to the Oakley Holbrooks.

Now, if someone wants to buy Holbrooks, they'll buy Holbrooks.

Pricing yourself so low in the market won't do you any favours in this regard. Why? Because it will feel like buying fakes

First off, THANKS!

We looked into oakley's patent suite and dont believe to be in violation of anything they have currently! The picture on this thread really doesnt give the design justice as they look sooooo much better in real life or on the indiegogo prototype pics

we're just doing $20 for the first 25 buyers and then it'll jump up to $30... we were mainly looking at knockaround sunglasses as a general competitor.. we'll see how it goes!

if you put your company name in script on the arms i would never even think about buying them. script it played out, do something new and appealing with typeface.

Interesting idea.... do you think leaving it blank and letting the temple logo speak for itself would be better? or just updated size/location/font of text?

Right on man. I wasn't really referring to wayferers in what I said, more just saying look at getting in at the start of a trend as opposed to tailing along.

They look like decent glasses, use 'em to get some start up capitol going. But try and be a touch more forward in your next pair. Just my opinion of course.

And I like the look of persols, but they have a bit too much of a jagged edge in the nose.

Luxottica Makes All Your Sunglasses

Remember back when you watched The Matrix for the first time and ran down to the store to buy sunglasses and a trench coat? There were so many sunglass brands to choose from: Oakley, Ray-Ban, Revo, Vogue, DKNY, and if you must have only the best, $500 designer glasses from Prada and BVLGARI (which has that V-instead-of-a-U thing, so you know it's classy like ancient Rome).

Which was famous for its sunglasses.
The thing is, all of those are made by one manufacturer -- Luxottica. Starting off as a tiny Italian glasses company, Luxottica caught the 1980s fever (see Wall Street) and started buying every glasses-related company it could get its hands on, as well as talking pretty much every fashion designer into letting them make their sunglasses line.

Well, at least you get to pick between stores, right? If the people at the LensCrafters are being dicks while selling you different glasses all made by Luxottica, you can show them what you think of that by taking your business across the mall to the Pearle Vision. Or maybe the Sears or Target optical departments. Except that they are also all owned by Luxottica. Just for the sake of argument let's say that you're not a squinty-eyed nerd, so you pass by the prescription shops and go right to the Sunglass Hut. You guessed it. Luxottica.

That has got to be really heavy.
This is of course why they can charge you $200 for a piece of plastic with two hinges -- because most of the "competition" isn't actually competing with them. They are them. It also means that if anyone came up with a mind control chip you could put into glasses, they could have the whole world enslaved within months.

seeing a lot of negativity but in my opinion they look good, look comfortable and quality for the price! Although i do feel that with starting your own company or brand you need to try new things that havnt really been seen before to be known

These look nearly the same as everything else. It's great that they're cheap, but are they polarized/ do you have a polarized option or is there something revolutionary about them? Otherwise I'd say you should get out of the eyewear business.

I do like them, but like everyone is saying, they are not super original. I like that you can customize them, and swap out parts, that seems interesting to me, but you really need something new and groundbreaking that will set you apart from other sunglasses companies. Create your own lane, but +K to you for starting up something like this.

i think that it is a cool idea and i support your design and everything, but personally i feel that you should make the price higher and make quality polarized lens sunglasses in the 7-100 dollar range

If a person want sunglasses, even if they don't have money they wont just go the local corner sore and shag some 10 dollar glasses because that a waste and a lot of people know those will end up being left on the beach, lost in the car, or somewhere in their bedroom

personally i have always bought Oakley, i had Jupiter when they came out, broke after like 3 years so they held their own, then frog skins which i sold because i bought the lame ass lime green ones, and last year bought the holbrooks in matte black, they still cost me like 130$ at the sunglasses hut, and they weren't even polarized

now that it is ski season and i am a photographer/filmer i like to wear my holbrooks with a beaine or 5 panel, they always fog up and the glare when i am following somebody is awful

the oakley holbrook is a classic design that will be around for a long time so u def picked a right frame to be similar too, but i need glasses that are nice, and strong with a polarized lens that is actually good, i know smith, ray ban, maui jim, scott, electric ect all have polarized lens but their design isnt great, if u can keep ur design, ass some serious weight to them, make them sleek and elegant, with good catchy name that people wont forget, and sponsor some people to wear them and that actually geta lot of looks by other people, athletes for example or somebody in the culture stuff like music and art to wear them and once they get seen wearing them, everybody will want them

marketing is key, how infulenical do u think oprah winfrey and ellen degeneris and all those other talk show host are on america and international society, they say that something is good and people go out and buy it

just helping, i love marketing and plan on taking it in college, hope i helped

you should drill holes in the end of the arms to attach string or whatever to hold your shades around your neck. i currently do this to all the sunnies i buy mainly so i dont lose/break them when they fly off my face for whatever reason, and so i dont have to keep them in my pocket when i go inside. you could also make all sorts of strings with different colours, materials, weaves/braids, and what i'm really looking for is a good clasp that's strong but also fairly simple to unclasp as right now i've just been tying knots in the string/hemp that goes around my neck.

I like this idea, more expensive product though because there will be more manufacturing processes, unless you can find/develop an injection-mouldable polymer with lower specific gravity than water...

Not hating, but I doubt you are cutting low on the profit margin.  I know Kyle the owner and operator for midwestshades.com and I know he uses the same quality frames as Oakley and other 'high quality' glasses companies and he makes a large profit selling them at $12.  Given a few of his models are $15 but most of them are $12 and he hand paints MidWest Shades on every single pair of glasses which is pretty impressive since he is even making large shipments out of the country now. 

You have a good start, just gotta expand on models, he has like 10+ different types and is doing prescription and polarized lenses now for a  little more of a cost.
