Hey Guys!

I've been shooting timelapses throughout the summer, and now that it's coming to a close, I took some of the better timelapses and put them into this video. I'm hoping to get a motion slider and different lenses to improve my timelapsing in the future, but I'm overally pretty happy with this video's turnout.

So if you guys want to check it out, that'd be awesome, critiques are very welcome!

Thanks!

nice man, lots of really cool ones! don't have much to critique on, other than maybe add some post movement so all the shots aren't static. Also, are you using a ND filter for the day lapses? Didn't seem so but in some instances it's nice to be able to get a 20 second shutter in daylight to avoid the choppy/edgy look (although this works for certain time lapses)

thank you sir!

yeah, i get the movement part, but i didn't really want to this time because i liked how most shots were set up and i didn't want to have to crop stuff out in movement, etc. and no, i don't use an ND. i'm aware of some uses, but i've never heard of people using and ND in timelapsing. i shoot with very small intervals during the day, around 2-5, because then i have really workable media in post. you can always speed stuff up, but you can't slow it down (well, not very well) so i like to have really long, slow timelapses to speed up.

The clips were all pretty good. All together, there were too many cloud timelapses. The video dragged on because of them. I liked the one around 1:52 best.

You seem to have duplicated some scenes with different crops or different times of day. Try not to, unless they are very different. You repeated the 1:50 one around 3:20, and it worked well with the sun setting, but I found you had cropped it in too much, the earlier composition was much better.

ND filters will let you get longer shutter speeds, not necessarily longer shot intervals. This will blur any motion, making the shots with relatively fast moving objects (ex. people) look much more fluid.

You can try to satisfy the 180 degree rule by having a shutter speed of half your shot interval. If you want 4 second shot intervals, stop down or use an ND filter to get the shutter speed to be 2 seconds. If you use a 9- or 10-stop ND, you can completely remove the moving people from your shots.

Your earlier mention that you liked how the shots were set up (I'm assuming composition) makes sense if you want to do a basic timelapse, but consider pushing yourself to get the movement in there with good composition throughout. It will be much more dramatic, and worth the investment in equipment if you really want to pursue timelapses. Even a single degree of freedom (movement) will go a long way.
