Im still working on this edit, and still trying to get more shots and looking for a good song. If you guys have any good ideas or tips to help me improve this edit/ my editing skills it would be dope. the first couple shots are with sanyo cacti vpc fh1, and the other are filmed with my t4i

Im not sure what editing software you're using but right now after quickly watching it on mobile the thing that pissed me off the most was the vignette shots and then the t4i shots. Maybe try to zoom in a bit so that the vignette is gone? Sorry for being harsh about that. Maybe try to refilm those shots if you really want them

yeah, absolutely crop the vignette out, it just ruins videos for me. I would have really considered it more of a collection of videos rather than an edit, edits usually have music and SOME ambient noise, not exclusively, although I'm not going to comment on the skating because I don't skate.

-you may want to add some "lifestyle" shots if you want an edit, instead of a collection of shots-(what you have now)

use your t4i to your advantage, get some creative shots, closeups, in-out of focus shots, DOF shots and stuff. it seemed like all those shots could have been filmed on a point and shoot.

and of course, add music

the first shots arent with the t4i there with my old camera and an awful fish eye and thats how all of the shots come out with it. ya like i said i havent done any real work, and still looking for a song. but mainly all the skate edits ive seen are just a collection of shots.

What do you expect us to say when you pretty much have a bunch of shots put after each other with no real editing? Take the time and complete your edit next time before you post, then we can see what you should improve and you can re edit it to that!

And as someone already said take more advantage of you t4i and be creative when shooting!

because that "edit" was absolutely pathetic. and whatever that collection of "shots" were, was terrible. he might as well shot it on his iphone.

i mean, really... if you're shooting on a t4i, i would at least expect some sort of quality in the shots. and maybe even a song put to them. i think i could've made that "edit in progress" in 15 minutes with my cell phone and windows movie maker. give me a break...

if you read what i said you would see why is terrible. iwas looking for some song ideas and shots that i should try and get to make it better. all i was looking for was some advice

I have a skate edit I'm currently working on and am hoping to e done with by middle of next week. It's not really an edit but more of a, beauty of skateboarding type thing. I'll post it here as well to give you ideas if you'd like

You are obviously new here, so I'll try to help you out.

You cannot ask for advice on a video that is merely stringing together random shots with no flow, or anything as there simply is nothing to critique other than the filming itself.

Also, don't get indignant over the fact that people are actually critiquing your edit. Yes, some of it will be harsh, but thats what it takes to get better. Being a dick about it is not going to help you in any way.

Finally, only post legitimate edits/videos that you want to be critiqued, not a few shots that are not edited in any real manner, people aren't going to want to help.

anyone up for some side booters?

Some advice that may actually help you is to find a song before the next time you go film. Then you can listen to the song and try to think what shots that will go with the song. Also make sure you get some intro shots that will fit the song and try to get some depth of field shots, you get this with setting your aperture down to the smallest number available on your lens (if your on a kit lens; f/3.5 when on 17mm and f/5.6 when on 55mm I think).

^ Depth of field shots are great, but can get overplayed! Work with some other stylistic shots as well so that you are not confined to a specific style of shots.

Also, lenses are actually sharpest around f 5.6 - 8 (something around there, it depends on the lens), so you may want to take that into account when shooting video, as many people make the mistake of cranking their aperture to about 22 or whatever the highest f stop is, which only makes the image very soft.

Invest in a good ND filter if you are going to be filming a lot outdoors and in sunlight, it helps IMMENSELY

ya this was an awful idea to make this thread, it wasnt an edit at all. i should have done more work. but i dont have enough shots so this collection of shots is done
