I have been messing around with my t2i for the passed 6 months or so and I have been able to get high resolution video but I am wondering how I can get my video to be this high quality?

Salton Sea Beach from Philip Bloom on Vimeo.

I have also noticed that after I have put a clip into final cut the clip degrades a little in quality is there a way to prevent that?

I already have a cine picture style along with a few others. So that's marked off the list. Now the zeiss lens, I may get a cz.2 70-200 for my graduation gift next year, since I am in need of a telle lens.

Other than lenses what can I be doing to improve or preserve the movie quality when shooting and in post. I notice that when I export some quality is sometimes lost from the original clip that came strait off the camera.

Double post, but if you're serious enough about video to get a $20,000 lens why would you ask a skiing forum for advice on how to use your camera?

At any rate here's my suggestion to the original topic.

-Stop down already sharp glass
-Play with picture profiles
-Don't grade too heavily
-Lots of light

that's so sick man!
shooting perfect exposure and focus and everything will help. colour correcting in post will help. colour grading will help. using the right render settings will help a lot if it seems like you're losing a lot of quality after rendering. i can't tell you good render settings since you're on fcp and i only use premiere.
but using better lenses will probably be the best improvement depending on what lenses you're using now.

Hahaha, no im not getting that telle lense. I'm saving up for a 70-200mm L lens, and may be able to get some sort of zeiss prime for my graduation, but I would probably have to chip in some of my money also.

Or just buy a C/Y mount for 300$. Not trying to break your deal, but kids on here shouldn't get the ZF version. Just sell it on fredmiranda or ebay.

This is a good way to degrade your image.

video on dslr'ss is comprised, not raw, so it can't be pushed as far in post. gh2 is better than the canons, but still nowhere near the flexibility of something that shoots true raw video. Because of this, it is best to do as little grading as possible, and to try and get a good image directly out of the camera. That way you can do a little tweaking (if needed), and get the same "style look" but with much better quality (no banding or artifacts etc.)
treadmills are the trick to everything. fat chicks, skiing on grassy flat back yards, OK GO videos.. - jibnut

The c/ys are not the same, much older and aren't as legit as cp2s (as the zf/ze series is)

Kind of said before, when you're shooting with a low bit rate codec (ie h264 canon, avchd pani/sony) its better to be able to do the least amount of grading as possible. tweaking picture profiles/picture styles mixed with minor grading is the best way to go, shooting flat is good but if you dont want your final image to look "flat" (aka stept stuff, they shoot flat but keep their image flat overall) you're gonna have to do a ton of grading and your image will degrade.

Cinestyle is beneficial if you are in extremely controlled lighting conditions, and even then you have to be extremely conservative in post. Using cinestyle to "increase latitude" for everyday shooting only damages your image because you have to push/pull the image to get the correct levels instead of implementing it externally (lighting). This causes noise, banding, and chroma clipping.

HighwayLines the Video

HighwayLines the Video

Apr 11th 2009

It's so great that youtube now posts HD videos, its worth the wait of loading the video in higher quality. I was getting bummed with them, since I am filming with such a high quality camera and then posting blurry videos. HD does justice to the footage, so you can watch in full screen and really see the action. BUT I think it takes time before they have it ready so you may have to come back and watch it again. Enjoy..

early season video

Dec 7th 2008

Even though it's now December, things are still very "early season" in Tahoe, with no natural snow to be seen anywhere except the highest peaks. I can't wait to ski some powder, but in the meanwhile I've just been cruising the rails with some buddies. And this weekend we finally got some little jumps! Video included.
