I'm looking to buy some poles (my first pair). I've heard Line poles are a bit "gimmicky" and snap easily, i can get the Darts for £20 (around $30), so that's pretty cheap. I'll be skiing mostly hardpack, maybe 55:25:20 Hardpack:Park:Backcountry

Should i get them?
If not, what should i get?
+K for anyone who helps

2nd this.

as for the "gimmicky" I have never had poles that don't snap easy? They're all thin metal and hollow...
The Line poles seem to hold up just as well as any other I've used.

Thanks to you guys for your input, +K given to you two.

Forget to add that I'll only be skiing 6-12 days per season so durability isn't too important.

Also, the $220 i was gonna spend some of on the poles that i made from an $8 free bet on 888poker... yeah, i lost it on pocket K's. /cry. might still get them though, any further input is appreciated.

I would get them. $30 isn't bad, and they're nice poles.

30 bucks is a steal for sure. But they are gimmicky. I bent a pair by whacking the snow off the bottom of my boots the first day i hat them. Ive never seen scott poles snap, so maybe you should try those if you have never had a pair that didnt snap

Paying $30 for poles is fucking stupid. Buy rental poles from your shop for like $5 or go to your resort's lost and found. Need skinnier grips? Make some with duct tape or whatever. It's not terribly hard.

No. It's true it's not ecomonic, but it isn't out of stupidity that most kids gladly pay the money for "cool" poles.

The fact is rental poles look like dick and some of us have enough money to waste $30 to look good. On top of that we like to support our fave companies... Likewise I buy Line hoodies, beanies, etc... not because they're cheap, but because I genuinely like Line Skis and hope their business grows and succeeds. I mean $30 vs $5 and you get too keep them forever... $25 difference... dude you can't even go out to eat with that much money.

i copped a pair of graphite rental poles. i can flex them in a full 90 and they won't break. they are a bit heavier but you get use to it.

I've seen a pair get sheared in half. We were bombing down a ridge, hitting all the bumps and popping and having fun. My one friend was on the upper traverse, and another friend on the lower.
Lower friend went up, and his ski came level with the upper friends pole, and sheared it clean.

Mind you it's a freak accident. But still cool.

I'd say get whatever pole you like. I personally don't like metal poles, they bend too easily. I just use Goode graphite.
Does anyone else feel aroused... and jealous... and worried?

At my local mountain they have a bucket of lost/broken poles. I find a few and then spray paint them. Sometimes they are all broken so i get 2 with relatively the same handles and 2 with the same baskets that are long enough, then take them home and cut the bottom halfs to the same length and put the handles on and then spray paint them. And ive also just made hand grips with sport tape but the only problem is they would freeze and get really hard. Ive never spent more than 5 bucks on poles....

I have the pins.
Love mine, though they are a bit thinner.

LOVE the grip. When these snap, I'm just going to transfer the grip over to my next set.
The grips alone justified the cost of the poles for me.

I've said it 100 times before, I use to love line going back before the ghetto blasters, bought a pair of polls 2 years ago 1st day 2nd run, clean snap-and my edges were anything but sharp-both the shop and line wouldnt do anything about it....not worth the 50+ bucks

dont get them, every one i know that has had them broke them in the first week of using them. scott poles are pretty strong. I have made wooden poles for myself and they have lasted for 3 years. they costed about 5 dollars to make and you can customize them. the only downside to that is I have not found a way to put a basket on the end.
My first kink rail I racked myself.

Daydreams come true

Daydreams come true

Feb 8th 2010

Today was all about realizing daydreams. Both of these lines have been on the list for awhile. Ursus minor NE has been on for about 4 years, and Sifton N face was spotted 10 years ago and wondered about then. Today we decided to try a link up that we have never done and would put two new notches on our ski poles. Aaron, Conor and I cruised up Ursus minor in 3.5 hours and we were skiing down the NE face before noon. The snow was facetted and sloughy, pouring down the slopes behind you. No slab and great turns down this face. So great to finally ski this line, and then we are off and up towards Sifton mt. Which I seem to be climbing  more and more now, the wrap around to the north and the final scramble up the ridge is always worth it. Now this N face has allure but also drops us into the unknown, and we were worried about our escape. The escape seemed do-able, a 500 ft bootpack up a steep slope but seemingly manageable. So at 3 pm we dropped down the north face and had wicked turns down the ridge and into the north bowl. Such a cool line and so removed from the rest of Roger's Pass. Its quite possible that both of these lines have never been skied, we know for certain that none of us has skied them before and we were psyched. Pretty exhausting day, but well worth it.
