Hey guys, this past season i bought a new pair of boots from my local shop. There was a boot fitter and all. The first day i skied in them i could do 3 runs without unbearable pain. So this started the process of taking the boots off every few runs cause i couldnt feel my feet and the pain was so bad. I thought that this would only happen the first couple days of skiing cause i thought that i was breaking them in. I dont think this is the case though, because after 10 days of skiing in them, i have the same pain. I need some advice on this, are the boots too small? did the boot fitter mess up? thanks guys, input would be nice!

Bootfitting does not stop after the initial fitting and purchase. If you bought from a reputable shop, take them in and tell them exactly what your problem is. They should take care of you and get the shell where it needs to be. It may take some time and be a bit of trial and error, but a good shop will get you there.

boots are gonna suck for a bit. It took probably close to 150 days and 4 or 5 different trips back to the shop for shell work before mine fit perfect. But oh man, once they fit perfect its like pure heaven. Take em back in, the shop will help you

100 days and things are better? I agree 100 days shit is trashed.

GO BACK TO THE SHOP AND HAVE THE BOOTS ACTUALLY FITTED.

you just got them sized. It could be the foot bed, shell pinch point, and number of a gajillion things. It's a process no boot will fit perfect out of the box. If they do. Buy ten pairs.

If they're that bad, it's one of 2 things:

-The fit is fundamentally flawed, likely no amount of boot-work will ever make them particularly good. Trying to make them fit will be like polishing a turd.

OR

-You're doing something retarded like wearing 2 pairs of thick socks or cranking the hell out of your boots when you're on the hill.

Basically, a boot that has been fitted properly (appropriate last and a shell-fit done) shouldn't leave you in agony after 3 runs. At the worst you might have a few hot spots but if it's so bad you have to take the boot off then something is horribly wrong.

id go through 2 pairs of boots every 3 seasons if i got new every 100 days. you know how stupid expensive and unnecessary that would be?

there is no way your boots are actually thrashed after 100 days, unless their made out of paper mache.

the first time i went into the shop, a young 20 year-old guy fitted me in some boots and i was in pain for half the season.

ended up going back in and an old experienced guy fitted me in some new boots. broke in those boots in a week. never experienced anywhere close to the pain you were having with either boot.

i would be suspicious, but everyone's feet react differently. its still possible for a bootfitter to fit you incorrectly tho.

as for custom insoles, i would definitely recommend them. the difference is almost night and day.

Maybe you're wearing them too tight? or they just not the right.
Yes, that just happened.

UPDATE: so i went back to the shop i bought them at and the guy that sold them to me was there and he had checked my boots out and all, and he said that it wasnt wide enough of a boot for me when he was the one who fitted me...so he offered me 125 store credit toward a new pair of boots, which isnt bad i guess considering i bought them for 300 and skied them about 10 days..he said that i should of brought them back in after the first couple days of pain...and he would of given me full credit back...pissed me off, so now i have to find a way to make a couple hundred to buy some of the new voodoos

Was there a reason why he wasnt prepared to stretch the boot you currently own?

Honestly I would try to find a new shop. If the fitter is offering you money rather then trying to refit your boot it indicates he does not really know what he is doing.

You have to remember there is a big difference between someone who measure's feet and shell checks to someone who actually fits boots.

But its also worth noting it may be to some extent your feet causing the problem. It may be they need supporting back to a neutral postion. So if you havnt already got a custom footbed, chances are you need to see a better boot fitter. Custom footbeds are not really optional in ski boots, ski boots do not come with a footbed so in most cases a custom footbed is need. Snowboard boots are actually better, but for us skiers you need to change out the insole in a new boot straight away.

Also just in terms of how long they will take to wear in, it will depend on a few factors. The liner, the footbed, did you have them heat molded ect ect. Genrally though after having the boots heat molded it should take no more then about 4-5 days of use to bed in teh liner. The first few days will be very tight ie a few runs before you need to undo them, but it should soon get better.

Also to the comments above, boot liners generally last around 150 days of use, so if yours took 100days to bed in, chances are the boot never fitted you well, and it only feels ok now because teh liner has fully packed out.

Hope that helps.

The Voodoo is about the widest-lasted boot you can get. What are the boots you're currently in?

TBH sounds like the guy is a clown. And yeah you did kinda screw up by skiing 10 days in them before deciding they didn't fit.
