So, I'm a little drunk right now, enjoying the summer sun and downloading music/drinking beers/swimming in the pool/watching videos on NS. Just thought I'd make a thread saying how much I love where skiing is at right now. I'm somewhat O.G. and have seen skiing go from moguls/aerials and the reign of F.I.S. to this lovely thing we call a sport today.

'back in the day', (name drop)"Mr. Bishop" and I did a number of skiing road trips together, and one of the main topics of conversation was the future of the sport and where we think it will go. I can honestly say that things have far exceeded my expectations. NS.com is full on awesome sauce, halfpipe and slopestyle are now Olympic sports, and the way I see it (what with doubles being stock comp tricks and triples not too far behind) soon surpassing aerials.

Since the whole switch 1080 competition fiasco, the argument of style vs technicality and 'where the sport should go' has been a constant - at least on NS. I've always got a kick out of the issue. The way I see it, the best skiers in the world are choosing to do what they want to do with their skiing, there is no right or wrong, only expression. You don't like how so and so threw a triple? Guess what? It's not up to you. We should all just take a step back and appreciate what the pros are doing and be stoked on the fact that it is being done at all. Hell, back when JF Cusson was throwing the first rodeos, switch 720s, and many other tricks he innovated, they were ugly as hell (by todays standards at least). Would you rather he didn't throw them?

Oh my, I think I got a little off topic there. Skiing is constantly evolving, without progression the sport dies, both at a industry level and at a personal level. As long as you go out and try to push yourself in whatever way you feel gives you the most joy and get maximum enjoyment out of the sport, everything else is irrelevant. I could keep going, but I fear I've lost the point... actually, there never was a point. It's as simple as the fact that I love skiing, and everything about it.

One love.
O.G.

i'm loving how there are so many different styles that are gaining main-stream (at least in the skiing world) appreciation and appeal. every time there is a "who is the best at x type of skiing" thread nobody can agree on a top 5, because everyone is pushing it in different ways.

I would consider myself from the same generation and I find it sad that freeskiing is handing what it created right back to the FIS. I don't think many people understand the potential implications that this has on the next generation of freeskiers. All the people that matter let it happen because they are chasing dollars. they have betrayed the reasons why they started this movement.

For those of you that like my rants, I decided to do you a favor. Every month or so I will re-post an old rant in this blog and link to the original thread that I created. Why is this important? First, you don't have to dig though the forums if you want to read or re-read my stuff. Second, It makes me the center of attention which I think is awesome. Third, I...aw to hell with it, thats all I got.

Well, it was an awesome Thanksgiving weekend (so much to give thanks for when you can go skiing on Thanksgiving Day!). Here’s a quick recap, with a tip on how to get the most out of your early season skiing, how not to be an ass on crowded early season slopes, and how to look [...]
