http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Mobile-and-Wireless/Verizon-Fined-125-Million-for-Blocking-Android-Tethering-Apps-206610/

About time they government steps in and tells the wireless providers that it is our data that we paid for, we ought to be able to use it as we wish.

While there is a work-around and it was never an issue for me, it is the mere principle that they have had the ability to tell you how you can use the data you have purchased, on your devices.

I'm damn happy that they got slapped on the hand for it.

The fine was 1.25 million, not 125 million. 1.25 million means nothing to verizon haha. Given, the settlement comes with Verizon stopping the blockage of tethering apps

it's their network though; of course they have the right to manage it.

yes i agree that verizon charging for tethering is lame and opportunistic at best; but i don't see how they don't have the right to control their own network.

Data usage is data usage. If I pay for 2 GB of data usage a month, that data usage should be mine to use how I see fit. It should not matter if I use that data to browse the web on my phone versus tethering and browsing the web on a laptop or tablet.

Furthermore, they don't have the right to control their network in that manner due to a contract they have which allows them access to a network, which is exactly why the FCC has fined them.

Was the no tethering stipulation in each individual contract?
imagine if your dick was so long you could wear it as a belt. Ive always had this stupid thought that a girl would come up to rub it because it was such a nice belt. Then you would get a boner and it would whip out and slap her.Just a thought. -radtad

I think it all really depends on the make of android and everything.  I have heard tons of people complain about android and a lot of people complain about apple as well.  I think there are a ton of factors that play into it all.  service provider, where you live, what kind of phone, and probably a few other things.  I have a Samsung Nexus S its running jellybean right now its not rooted and yah sometimes it slows down but its all because I have so many things running at once.  I think I just need to get myself a quad core phone and I'll be set.  For the mos part though if I have like a few apps running rather than like 9-12 cause I have a tendency to neglect to turn off my apps after I'm done with them its fine.

I actually read an article the other day and it said that Samsung and Apple make up half the worlds population of smartphones users.
But anyways thats a bit off topic, i'd rather go home and eat some fancy dish soaps.

Will Wireless Carriers Soon Offer Internet-Connected Cameras?

Mar 20th 2012

Imagine a world in which cameras are as connected to the web as cell phones and purchased with contracts from wireless service providers such as AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint. That world may not be too far off. Last week we reported that both Samsung and Panasonic are considering Android-powered cameras that would offer third-party apps [...]

How To Enable Tethering on iPhone 3.0 with AT&T

Jun 17th 2009

After patiently waiting for weeks and weeks, I finally got a chance to download the new iPhone 3.0 firmware today.  I’ve been very interested in the tethering feature and I was pretty disappointed to find out that AT&T wasn’t going to be supporting this feature. You might remember one of my first posts about an [...]
