Hey everybody, I'm starting a website series on how to improve skiing for beginners. The first post is pretty obvious but I'm planning on making the post topics on more and more difficult stuff over time. Most of you probably won't benefit much from the post because its pretty obvious for experienced skiers but I'm just curious what you all think of the idea and of the post.

I think it's a great idea man. There's quite a few people on here that I think would really benefit from it. Just make sure you go over the step by step process of learning new things. Some beginners might not be comftorable just going for it. Cool idea though.

What I'm thinking is less than doing trick tips, it'll be more of tips on good technique and general tips for getting better like spending more time skiing or skiing a variety of terrain and stuff like that.

If you have someone do the trick tip videos, run it by some more experienced people (or yourself) who have done the trick so we don't end up with another Scott Vail.

Otherwise the website seems like a great idea. I'm sure it will help tons of people.

sounds good! I don't like skiers who can only ski park. cruising around the mountain is half the fun! especially if you're good. carving is also very fun/satisfying
The worst person, according to NS (doesn't reflect what I think)

Don't limit it to leg muscles, you use a lot more than just your legs when you ski, core muscles are an extremely important part and strengthening them will help make you a better skier.

Multi - Day ski trips are so important when starting out. You can improve your skiing much better on 3 and 5 day trips. The longer trips you go on, and the harder you try will improve your skiing big time.

Skiing is better than sex actually, because for me a good round of sex might be seven minutes. Skiing you can do for seven hours.

Multi - Day ski trips are so important when starting out. You can improve your skiing much better on 3 and 5 day trips. The longer trips you go on, and the harder you try will improve your skiing big time.

Thanks everyone for all of the criticism and help with both the post and the site overall! There are some trick tips on the website already, just not very many of them but there will be soon. I plan on doing fitness guides for skiing for both core and legs (thanks for the idea). Also, about Angie Smulkis, I could get more of her skiing too ;) haha

Also, make sure to check the "ski" section of our website every day or two for a new tip. Tell me how the series is going and tell me if I can improve it in any way. I want to help out the skiing community in any way I can and this is the best way I can see. Look forward to fitness tips, trick tips, and general tips for getting better!

getting scared out of my mind on steep as slopes did it for me, once your not scared of speed/falling you become way better.
My technique needs major improvement, i need to keep my skis closer together while carving

So in response to all of the ideas being tossed around here, I created a few new posts between last night and this morning with a bunch more tips that I thought were pretty useful including some fitness tips and I'm definitely planning on doing some trick tip videos once winter comes along! Until then, I'm going to try to put up a few tips a week, if not one everyday. So if you need help you can go check that out!

In all seriousness, I watched a kid do this down a pretty steep part of a run, that ends off in a drop into a lift tower. Kid got fucked up. He went 30 or so feet before even skimming the ground.
I like skiing and biking and pancakes and waffles and chocolate and milk shakes and sushi and cats and dogs and kitties and puppies and fish and fishy crackers and I also like drinking straight up caffeine before making a sig.

This. it is annoying when skiers can't actually ski. Being a good overall skier will also help with style, and make doing cool shit easier.

I was checking it out and I clicked on "switch-up locations" thinking that it was awesome that you were going to explain early swaps and late swaps on rails and how to set yourself up for other tricks. Much to my dismay, you go on about not getting better without going to big resorts, which isn't really true at all, let alone worth a whole page on your instructional website.

I'll get to that eventually. No where in that page did I say that you can't get good if you don't ski at a big resort. I actually said the exact opposite of that. If you had read the whole article you would've seen that that's not what I meant at all by the article. And as for taking up pages, I can do an unlimited amount so I apologize if one of the tips is to simple for you.

It not all leg muscle. You've got to work everything to get better. A strong core, shoulders and back are all key areas to focus on, but you need to do a lot of cardio and muscular endurance to get the best results. When you watch any a day in the life videos from skiers, snowboarders and athletes in general they don't focus on one thing in particular. You don't see guys out there going to the gym just working their legs. Can't stress that enough.

I am not a beginner, but I would be interested in watching what has to be said. I love learning things so even if I pull out one new tip from this I would say that it was a success. Yes, some people will be interested and some won't. Those who won't don't have to pay attention to it and can go do something else with their time.

yep. my gaper friends are trying to learn park, but they've only skied about 5 times (but still loaded up with twin tips and whatnot) and just dont understand that you need to learn how to actually ski before you learn park
