At the moment I'm doing this online "course" sort of thing and I'm doing HTML and CSS and once I'm done with that I think I'm gonna go on to python. From what I've read and what you guys are saying it seems like a pretty important one to learn

Python is sick, my friends uncle wrote a bunch of awesome minecraft codes in it, such as a prayer system. You type "pray 64 100" and the server gave you 64 of what ever item no. 100 represented. They had this for every item. He also made a knighting system. It says something like "you now and light basks over you. You rise up as Knight ______! And when you logged on it said "knight _____ has joined... Pretty sick stuff"

My friend and I did make some cool games in a game design class. First one you were a knight and it you walked around (like Pokemon view, 2d ish) and killed stuff. You then beat a boss and leaned spells and stuff. Then we made 2 war games. Mine was you were a Nam heli driver. You had to go trough the game and shoot enemy infantry and drop bombs on buildings. It was a scroller. Then his was a scroller too, and you Started in a chopper gunner from Mw2 and shot shit (it was really good, the gun shot rapid fire in all directions) and then you switched into an ac-130 and the weapons toggled so you got the different millimeter shells just like cod. Then just for shuts and giggles I made one where reptar had a jet pack and jumped across buildings, and you had to shoot fire at bosses. One of them was spider man, it was sick. I also made a recreation of pong, like old art, sprites, all of it. If you played them both, you wouldn't know the difference. So I guess I do write code kinda :P

I said that wrong, there were words, like you would type "give cobblestone" so it was mad simple, not "give swedishpeople 64 2" and you don't have to look up all the codes and stuff

If you're currently learning HTML, that and CSS obviously go hand in hand. You can't really have one without the other. But once you feel comfortable with that, I'd say move onto PHP and by extension SQL. Even though you could go out and learn object oriented programming languages, PHP and SQL you can use with the web stuff that you've already built with HTML and CSS.

Check this out. It's what I'm using to learn at the moment, and I really like it. It's 25 dollars a month, but I'm sure you could convince your parents to pay for it or something. That's what I did, I was just like oh this could build a foundation for a great career you should encourage me and help me along in the process and they agreed to pay for it, so that was good.

stanford has a bunch of free programming lectures on youtube and iTunes, including one that deals with Xcode (iPhone apps). they're pretty cool, I haven't gotten into them too much but I messed around with karel the robot and the eclipse program that stanford uses

i know a little bit about php/html/mysql, which in combination can do a fuckload of things with even only basic knowledge.

like a program for a small company, that helps them organize some shit, or whatever, this is the way to go, because with literally 50 commands you can do a lot of stuff, and they need just a browser to access it.

if you want to look at that, i can recommend xxampp as a test-server. its so easy to install and works within 5 minutes literally without knowing too much about computers. and php has the advantage that its, from what i know, the most documented language in the interwebs. like when you google something like "merging arrays" or whatever, the first autocomplete suggestion from google is "merging arrays in PHP". and you find anything. any possible problem, when you know how to word it right, was already solved 10 times on some PHP forum. for other languages, not so much.

trying right now to get C/C++ and this whole OOP stuff. tweaks my mind a little, but its ok.

personally it was a required course when i studied geology, i didn't like it at all because i was forced to study something that didn't really interest me...

only when approaching finals and making my required program (a simulation for an insect colony) i started to realize the possibilities with this program, it's a really cool language because it grows with you, once you have the basics of an application programmed, it starts to become fun and you even begin to refine your work, and add little extras to it. i really enjoyed those last weeks, too bad i stopped programming afterwards, i even got a 18/20 on that course :P

Unless it's been said already, download/buy a compiler. Start a simple project with an idea in mind and once you start learning new topics, add something into your project based on those topics. Good idea if you're trying to reserve as much memory as possible and make it more performance-based? No. Good idea for beginners and other learners? Yes.

What does it do omg, I had a written java exam this year, so obviously didn't have a computer to use with a compiler on it.

I was trying to explain to my friends who don't do computing that it's like doing a long ass maths question and not knowing if you're doing it right and your calculator won't give you out the answer of your calculations.

To put it simply, it transforms the code you written into an executable program.

*Note, the following is some made up psuedo-code:

##say "hello world"

The compiler would turn this into a program, but it's only some letters so all you'll see on the screen is 'hello world'. Obviously it gets more complicated than this and it gets to a point where designing a program and putting it onto a compiler is easier than doing calculations on paper or on a calculator (assuming you wanted to make calculations).

Right now there isn't much sense in going for backend programming as a career. Reason being is that there has been such a focus on backend programming and an influx of people in india charging so much less that backend programming as a career is becoming a bad idea. The only positions really opening up are as IT professionals to operate corporate servers and so forth. Not incredibly glamorous. Or from companies like adobe to produce software in house. But even some of these positions are becoming outsourced.

The best positions are in front end and mobile application development, as well as project management. I'm a front end / UI developer/designer and get around 20 requests a week to work on projects. I charge a reasonable price (which I have slowly been raising) and am not running out of work. I opted to specialize in Drupal since it can manage more sophisticated applications than Wordpress and am doing pretty awesome. Wordpress is alright, but better for more design oriented people and people willing to make a little less. Although, my friend who is an elite wordpress programmer gets around 15 requests a day, although the budgets are substantially lower than what I see.

There is a huge market for mobile application development as well, but responsive web development will likely dip into this a bit in that banks and so forth are in less need of an app, and responsive web development has the advantage of working on a computer as well. So basically, apps that require an internet connection will be losing some ground. Apps not needing internet are growing massively though. But at some point there will be an app for pretty much everything that can be offline... so not that great of a field in the long term.

Specialties - Drupal and Magento. Languages, PHP, Html 4, 5, xhtml/xml, (js, jquery, mootools, bootstrap) css2/3. Additional stuff, mysql, vm, git, svn, wordpress, oscommerce, zencart, photoshop, indesign, flash (AS2+3), Illustrator, Final Cut, Premier, SEO, social media, open graph. So basically... a shit tone of stuff to know for something that doesn't seem like it would be too much, but totally worth it. On my way to some project management stuff which I've been doing a bit and pays A LOT more. Stoked.

Funny thing is, I always offer to teach my friends... and no one ever accepts the offer.

All different, but similar. C was the first programming language of "the series", if you will, and served as the basis for c++, c#, etc. They're all powerful languages that are used for object-oriented programming(OOP. The C series is OOP, unlike Java which is modular programming. Look more into that with these links:

If you're just deciding between the languages you mentioned above, most would say C# because of its generality and ease of use; although I couldn't recommend it myself because I chose to learn c++ first, which probably wasn't the best option.
