Subject: If Hestra DID have a waterproofing rating what would it be?

I've been thinking about getting some vertical cut freerides and I've been wondering what would the waterproofing be if it did have a rating? This is assuming it's been covered in a balm well. That's the only thing stopping me from getting them. Also how hard is it to dry the liner each day? in the past I've had serious problems with drying gloves, having to use a hair drier which takes ages.

I've never had mine get wet on the inside.

you should never dry gloves with heat, if you use a dryer it should just blow air and not hot air.


also the balm will darken your gloves, some people are unaware of this when they buy white, or colored gloves.


I absolutely love my hestra ski cross gloves.

i have a pair of ski cross hestras and a pair of seth  pros

the ski cross ones have only been saturated once before and i was in the pouring rain for 6 hours straight
the seths have hestras "czone" and have never got wet.

i maintain both pairs very well

Mine never get wet..The leather gets water on it and gets kind of gummy but never soaks through...The best gloves you will use. They last forever too!
If all the athletes do future spins in one contest, there will technically be no one left to receive a prize (at least, in our reality). The skiers who podium will be transported to another time in the distant future, and therefore will not technically be able to receive their prize. To combat this, the winner will ultimately have to do a trick that IS NOT a future spin.

OP... are you talking about having sweaty hands?

my dad has the Black Diamond guide gloves (waterproof as fuuuuuck) and no matter how cold it is his hands and feet always sweat..... he just has a boot dryer and dries his boots and gloves every night

I agree with sHardy 100% on both posts

my hestras are damn warm and if I wear them on a slightly warm day or am hikin around, my hands definitely sweat, make sure to use dat balm too...works wonders

Actually, the exterior waterproofing is only as good as the balm you rub in. Some have a Goretex liner, which isn't bad, but it's thin and gets torn easily. You might want to reconcile that issue on your chart.

Honestly, leather gloves are all about climate. If you ski someplace where it's cold and dry, they'd be fine, but wetter climates with heavier snow and more frequent rain suck. I used Hestras for years in the PNW, and eventually gave them up because of the exact thing you're asking about: they're a bitch to dry with no integrated liner.

I'm personally a big believer in the Outdoor Research Mt. Baker mitt. Goretex shell with fast drying, removeable liners. Way more functional, and way more waterproof. Had a pair for five years, then got new ones and they're the best hand protection going for cold and wet.

That's fair. I did a pretty good job of it, but they saw a ton of use on park crew and eventually anything succumbs to that sort of destruction.

I have a pair of seth pros, they keep your hands so dry and are super durable, I would never not buy hestra

I bought VCFs and Seths on SAC a few years ago.  I didn't even bother wearing them out on the hill because they didn't fit.  Nice gloves, but they just didn't fit my hands.

I could have.  Return shipping on two pairs of gloves to BC.com from Canada was about $25.  So I just sold them to local guys on TGR for what I paid instead. 

Then I bought two more pairs of Dakines.
