Subject: Hellbents... for park
I know, I know, another stupid kid asking about using hell bents in the park. The difference is I live in the midwest and am looking to just have fun, and change it up, so here is my question. How heavy are they real, and what bindings should I put on them. (the 09/10 122 underfoot model)
i have the older models, the last yr of the 122 underfoot and they are heavy a fuck. Really fun though.
Yeah they're pretty damn heavy. Especially with a beefy binding.
Good fun for jumps, I've taken some pretty large jumps on mine and they always feel pretty stable unless the inrun is choppy and requires bombing to get the distance.
Spinning can take some effort as you have a lot of weight a long, long way away from the binding. But if you just want to do suuuper steezy slow 3's they look pretty damn cool. See Charley Ager for reference.
Never really used them on rails as I don't want to smash them up just yet.
Hey i ski wilmot too and i use hellbents in the park!
Go for it they're pretty light for a pow ski and the rocker/flat/rocker makes them a ton of fun on rails and they're stupid soft for butters. They will be ok on Wilmots jumps but at some points their to soft for bigger jumps if you land a little to front/backseat you will wash out.
But go for it they're a blast!

Thanks for the responses, and I have seen you at wilmot. What binding would make them the lightest they can possibly be, and I will be doing like 90% rails probably, because there are no good jumps out here.
to people saying that skis are heavy. just work out i mean dont bitch about weight. do something about it. ive seen a few people take pow skis in the park such as new lifes, one lifes, jjs, sfb. they seem pretty fun since they will be more stable but pretty chattery

Go with marker griffins they're pretty light/durable also little local secret if you go on the other side of the fence on stateline there's a forest preserve called gander mountain that you can hike and shred or mountain bike in the summer Midwest backcountry for the win.Thanks for the responses, and I have seen you at wilmot. How big are you? Pivot/FKS 14 with XXL 115mm brake is probably a good match, or a Griffon I guess, Jester if you're heavier.

the pettitor has some camber. u would like it more in park than a hellbent.

I spin and land on my chopsticks in the park better then on my recoils./claim
but seriously something about the weight of a real fat ski just helps me stay stable in the air and stomp better

Just a sujestion, but look at the Salomon Rocker 122. same underfoot, but way more plafull all over the mountain and lighter then the hell bent.

the hellbents lack of camber will make it weird on jumps. the pettitor is meant to be able to hit jumps and pop like a normal ski, although there isnt a ton of camber like a traditional park ski. its about the waste size of the first hellbent build (newer ones have gotten wider). the pettitor is stif, but there is so much rocker that it isnt difficult to push around. i am 5'9" 140 lbs and i liked the 179 a lot.
I took my hellbents to the park jumps once,..... scariest thing ever!!!! When you land you CANNOT mess up like i mean if you land backseat your just going to eat it sooo hard cause of all the rocker your just going o wash out. But since i mentioned 90% rails i think you are going to have some fun with them. Just keep in mind its reaaaaly hard to nollie with them since of the high rocker.
shape and flex wise Line EP pros are pretty similar to hellbents, 2 years back i rode nothing but my EPP's all year round and it was pretty damn fun, i couldn't do all the stuff i do on my park skis, but they were very fun and buttery, looking at myself, i think i ride the smoothest on my fatties ...
so if you're not really looking at shredding park hard and progressing fast, but you're just looking for something fun and smooth to ride, then hell yeah, go for it!

130 make sure if you get them through a shop they use 130 the boardshop told me they did but they used 120 and did a hackjob bending them and i had nothing but problems because of it.What brake size should I get, if I'm getting griffons, the waist is 122?

The new shape Hellbent does in fact have a teensy tiny bit of camber underfoot... well no its no as soft, but this means you can still jib about on them when your on the hardpack or small amounts of pow. (if that works) is mine.Also the camber on the Pettitor is quite large and aggressive, just over a short length... my local store just got them in stock, have fondled them in person. Can't wait to try a pair.
i still have a pair of OG hellbents that i bought when they came out, they are pretty fun in park, but i think if i was going to buy a pair of skis like that for park, i would get the moment ghost chants...i wanna get a pair of those so bad but just cant really justify owning like 3 or 4 different pairs of similarly sized pow skis
if i ever ride down through the park on my hellbents I always regret it. its so much work and its so scary
Ya, it'll take some getting used to, but I have normal park skis for when I'm looking to actually throw some tricks. These are just to fool around on, I got them off 150 so I was like why not. I just want to butter around and screw around on them. I can also use them in my backyard to get used to them if it is that different.
then i dont really see the point of getting hellbents. i think you would be better off upgrading your park skis. i just think youll regret it

Why is it always midwest kids who want to use fat ski's in the park. Seems like such a cry for attention.
Haha, unless you come to the Midwest you will never get it. Our laps consist of three extremely improvised hits. We have terruble features for the most part, on a 300 vert hill. It's just another way to mix things up and be more fun and creative.
