One of these days, Im just going to pack up my stuff and go. Trying to decide between Mt. Hood Community College(Gresham), Ft. Collins (maybe Boulder, trying to decide), or South Lake Tahoe.

I don't think I can go wrong either way, but if it was your choice where would you go and why

heres something moderately amusing for your time

If your coming to colorado dont go to fort collins. Boulder is just a better town closer to better mountains. Also CSU is an agriculture school. raunchy.

as have I. I respectfully disagree with you opinion. I do dislike all the hipsters in boulder though. Actually i will hand you fort collins is a better TOWN. Boulder beats it out in my book though because the Mtns are more important too me.

well the classes aren't that bad. but troutdale is a super lame town, it's right in this slot where it's always windy as fuck and oregon rains A LOT. and the community is like non existent. it's really hard to find people to hang out with. plus theres better mountains out there than mt. hood

Move in order to ski fort Collins isn't the place. Boulder would be a better choice but still you may as well move into the mountains and go to cmc Breckinridge . Good luck with your choice man. ( dub post from mobile)

If those three I would say go for SLT. There's good nightlife in SLT and the skiing isn't too bad either. My alternative would be Cerro Coso in Mammoth Lakes. Community college right in town, everyone there shreds, you can ride the bus everywhere, and Mammoth is better than all of the mountains you'd be shredding at if you went to Hood, Colorado, or SLT.

Definitely recommend salt lake or tahoe. I'd say north lake though cause the mountains are way better unless you go to kirkwood, but that's more of a drive when alpine/squaw/northstar are right there in north lake.
Salt lake's a sweet town as long as you're on the east side by the universities and, in my opinion, utah has the best all around skiing in the country, plus slc is a pretty nice city with lots of night life and amenities. There are also lots of young people and a more city life compared with tahoe, which has Reno pretty close if you wanna get into that.

Never been to Oregon, but it looks awesome and portland's not that far away; I'd say the skiing's better in utah/ca though. OR does have some really awesome outdoors stuff besides skiing, too like mtn biking, hiking, kayaking, etc, though all the other places do too.

Boulder's too far from, honestly, not that great of skiing and it's pretty crowded; the town's pretty awesome as well as denver though. Fort Collins isn't bad, but is way too far from skiing.

Go to Central Oregon Community College. Its in Bend, OR and its the most rad place ever. Town full of beer loving adventurous folk. Seriously though, its like not even 100k people living there and we have something like 13 breweries. Mt Bachelor (still open for the record) is 30 minutes away, plus theres so much other fun stuff to do. I have skied and waterskied on the same day (or you could golf, mt bike, whatever floats your boat).

So right now Bend and Tahoe are winning, but I'm stil open to any other places.

My criteria is a cool town/city close to snowboarding, friendly people I can make friends with (pretty general but I wont know anyone where ever I go), things to do in the off season and has a community college and Ideally a university close by that I could transfer to later.

We had a 500" season last year and that was all 100 percent champagne. It doesnt matter how deep the snow is if you dont sink in. Utah has better than colorado but colorado has better than Utah.

Mammoth's terrain will be much better than a Summit County resort. Also, the community college is basically at the base of the mountain, it means the car stays parked and all the money he saves in gas can go to trips to LA, SD, Tahoe, etc. Did I mention on an average season you'll ski from November to mid-June or July 4th on a good season.

its your best option OP. go to osu cascades, get a bachelors degree with very small class sizes from a very reputable research institution. ski everday, drink lots and lots of beer. float the deschutes in the summer. drink more beer

drink even more beer. did i mention deschutes brewery is in bend?

bachelor is still open with tons of snow, in fact it was snowing and low 20's on friday. come at me colorado bros

but you do know that summit county has free bussing also, so there is really no need for a vehicle.

I loved Bend. OP I picked up and moved there from the east coast and stayed for 2 years. It was perfect. Great lakes, fishing, culture, riding, nice weather, coast isnt TOO far away. I kinda feel like moving back when Im done with school. Be aware that school is a little more difficult in Bend, depending on what your interests are.

My main fear with COCC is that there wouldn't be a lot of people my own age around and It might be difficult meeting people, as opposed to Boulder or Fort Colins where theres a university right in town and tons of other college kids, also concerts and other things to do that specifically cater to college aged people. Just a thought I had.

there are plenty of young people at COCC. as long as youre normal you wont have trouble meeting friends your own age. thats a legitimate concern as there wont be as many college aged kids as in a college town.

like you said, you enjoy skiing. Boulder is not the place to shred unless you like driving more than skiing. and skiing on flat mountains with texans that don't like powder and go to summit county to ski groomers.

its easy to have low water content when the snow doesn't fall.

Im going to bump this one last time to ask this: If you were in my position but had to choose a town/community college in Colorado, where would you go and why. Priorities are cool town, cool people, skiing within hour and a half or so.

And thanks for all the response, this is making deciding a lot easier. +k for all!

Its living a life you want, versus living the life 'you're supposed to live'.... I feel really blessed to have the connection I have with skiing, and dont have that connection anywhere else in this world. Doing anything but skiing is abandoning myself and ignoring what I really value and what makes me feel alive. Feeling alive is more important to me than chasing ideals set out by people who don't even like their lives and who live an unexamined life. -lalalalaura

Im going to bump this one last time to ask this: If you were in my position but had to choose a town/community college in Colorado, where would you go and why. Priorities are cool town, cool people, skiing within hour and a half or so. And thanks for all the response, this is making deciding a lot easier. +k for all!
depends on what you want.

for me, I would move to frisco and go to CMC in breck. that way you can still ski every day and go to school.

if you dont want to live in the mountains then Front range is your next best choice, in the boulder area. good college town.
