Is there truely a one ski quiver out there?!?!

-A ski that can float effortlessly in POW

-Charge hard and stable on groomers

-Still super fun and playful

-Turn through the trees

I know it's not possible to have the best of each of those catagories, but is there a ski that is decient at all of them? I was looking at the Line MP Opus since I hear and read it can carve up groomers and turn on a dime, but how does it hold up at speed? Also my buddy really likes the Faction Royale. I do prefer a ski on the wide side, since I will be doing some hiking and maybe some side country stuff, but it needs to be able to handle itself on the groomers when Im out with the wife, or just crusing on a non pow day. Is there any hope for this one ski or do I just have to go buy a different skis for all my sking dreams to come true?

this is a good thread - to turn it up side down - what would the ultimate specs be for a one ski quiver if NS was to make it?I would say 100-105 under foot wide enough to float and still go on edge on ice or groom. 130-140 shovel to get lift tip and tail rocker for lift - traditional under foot for good edge hold Medium stiff - play full and still with an ability to charge Directional flex for good all mt ability, but still with a great park feel - but maybe a little softer in the tail binding mid sole at 3-4 from the center.

Sorry man, rough morning. Have you tried charging with them in any non perfect 3d snow though? I guess I just feel like they wouldn't be that great due to flex and shape
bakers got a few steep groomers that ive bombed but theres been about a foot or two new for the last 2 weeks so i havent gotten to try them on any bumps but down groomers i can just bomb without worrying about crossing

Nah mate! This is my second season on JJs and they are awesome everywhere. Hell I blasted it down an icy gs course on them when I was out filming with my race team and they were fine. I normally ski european alps which have variable conditions nearly all the time and the JJs kill it everywhere. The JJs are great and are the best fat, all mountain ski I have skied. (I have skied all that have been mentioned so far apart from On3ps as it is SO EXPENSIVE to import them. And the nordicas - don't know much about them)
That's great but how many similar design skis have you actually compared that are similar is design/specs? I'll say again, they have a stupid 12 METER TURN RADIUS wtf is that?? You are British and we all know that British people can ski, but they can't CHARGE! :p

I ski an Atomic Blog 185 with Jester Schizo off piste and in the park. It handles pow and jumps well, but is a tad bulky for spins and jibs. Binding at team center chatters on groomers but at -2 or -3 is solid.

JJ is gonna be my one quiver ski... but then again im at baker so its pow everyday
I like the JJ but the TST is more of a one quiver ski, it floats like the JJ but turns groomers like ARV.

Arguably any ski could be a "one ski quiver" but you can't possibly have superior float via a wide waist whilst also being fast edge to edge. That is why powder skis are wide and carving skis are narrow (duh). The REAL DILEMNA IS: how slow do you want to be able to go while staying on top? Any ski will float if you go fast enough.
N'oh shit an intelligent input on Newschoolers.. I'm gobsmacked!

IDEALY for me 115 at the waist, floats like a dream, but super quick side to side, rails groomers, with radius 18-20. Mounted 4-5 from center. obvioulsy no ski is perfect in powder, while also perfect on groomed terrain. but that would be my ideal ski! haha anyone heard much on the 2013 line influence 115?!?! besides the blister review and powderpoachers review.

But it's physically impossible for 115 underfoot to be "super quick side to side (wat?)" or else carver middle agers would all be on powder skis. Use your head, and your eyes.

Regarding the Opus, it really does everything you mentioned extremely well and is a mega-fun ski, plus decent groomer performance. I charge groomers fast as fuck, and although I can visually see a bit of chatter up front, it behaves and doesn't get out of hand, nor can I feel it, especially when it's on edge. I don't ever have to think about it. I go fast all the time and need a ski that can keep up and keep stable, and they give me no issues. The near center recommended mount is a godsend in the trees especially when it's tight and you need to pivot around a lot. When it's steep and/or deep, they turn sideways to slough off speed, and you start to enjoy having so much edge to work with behind center. I've skied many, many skis and they are one of my favorites and a brilliant design if you ask me. Talk about playful!

Yeah I know no 115 ski will be quick edge to edge...  I was saying if it was at all possible thats what I would like (hypothetically)

But yeah im going to demo the opus this next weekend and im real excited about it! Thanks for the Help!!! If it's what you say it is, it might just be my next ski!

It's good, I wish the tips and tails didn't flop.

Anyways, I skied my Jefferies yesterday on a day I could have easily skied Bentchetlers. Yesterday reinforced my opinion that If I had to own ONE ski, it would be the ON3P Jeffery.

I'm fortunate enough to have a set of all mtn. and a set powder skis  right now, but when they get clapped out i've been thinking of going with a single set of Line Blends. 100mm underfoot with a little bit of early rise in the tips and tails I think would be a great ski for you since your in the pnw. People recommending On3p skis I think are spot on too.

i think the bent chetler might work for you. really playful and poppy. Obviously it has great powder performance with the rocker but it also has a stiff camber and decent amount of edge contact when you roll them over. I like them better that the jj, they feel more predictable and ready to charge.

the Colorado FreeSkier in Crested Butte has a bunch of good deals on not only the bent but most of their other skis. (and 40% off all outerwear). czech it

Anyone tried the Atomic Crimsons or Nomads this season? Tried these this winter and where all mountain skis normally fail on piste, for me, they were unbelievable. They felt like the usual all mountain style ski I'm used to skiing, on steroids. As close as it gets to a one quiver ski in my book.

I have used the 4FRNT VCT as my go to ski for the past 5 years. I believe it has been replaced by the Turbo, but the dimensions are identical (only the shape and addition of rocker have really changed the ski).

Hundreds of days later, it still skis well. Otherwise, I will continue to be an ON3P whore and suggest either the Caylor (fatter option) or the Jeffrey (mid-fat).

I have only skied the Caylor out of those two (just bought Jeffreys last week) and it rips on most surfaces here in the East. It's really at home in the deep stuff, though, which you'll get plenty of out in PNW.
Make my day.

Full nipple appears to be ok for the time being -Link.

So you bought a fat pair of skis last year that was supposed to a one ski quiver or an 80/20 ski. And this year our Old Man Winter hasn’t yet let our beloved La Nina out to play yet.   Those fatties just aren’t cutting it on the hardpack. Well, with the epic conditions [...]

REVIEW: Bordz-Up Ski Rack; Hold Your Whole Quiver

Mar 10th 2010

Everyone could use some organizational help, but skiers are notorious for being especially messy. Maybe it's the wax scrapings all over our floor, or the gloves, hats and goggles strewn about to dry out, but for whatever reason skiers get a bad wrap for being disorderly. In an effort to help you clean up, we've searched high and low for the best quality wall-mounted ski rack available. Check out our review after the break for the winner (or if you're the impatient type, just go purchase one right now).
