I was reading a magazine about tunneling (my dads an engineer and is doing a huge tunnel project so he had it) and they had an article about a very cool new geothermal source of energy. basically, they would run a pipe 3-6 km through the earths soft crust or some shit (they already have the capabilities to tunnel 3 km down) into rock that is over 200 degrees celsius. then they would pump water down onto the rocks, where it would create huge amounts of steam, and run up another tube through a turbine. The steam could then condensate again in some sort of reservoir where it could be pumped down again and again. That was a super super simplified version of the whole process obviously, the article explained a lot more. The sick thing about that source of energy is that it could be accessible anywhere on earth. They could even drill down in the ocean to make offshore rigs but i dont see how that would really be beneficial lol. and since the Earth's core is virtually an unlimited energy source, the systems would never run out or cool down and could be used indefinitely. So each plant would use a large quantity of water, but otherwise nothing. no harmful byproducts or mining required, considering they could tunnel down without drastically effecting the earth. its the future man, the future. congratulations for reading all that, i hope it made sense.

Whether it works or not is a different story, but the idea is that the energy is all there, but that on their own the magnets can't run an engine.
