I'm intrested in how other people chose to go do freestyle instead of doing other types or skiing. I started after at a young age doing jumps and the big butter boxes, after a while of quiting park for at least 2 years I came back to it, and advanced a bit better then after starting getting good, I realized that this skiing was more fun than any other type, and stuck to freestyle progressed. Now im hooked on it and do at least 90% park. :P

Care to share to? I search bar'd and nothing came up. sooooo if this is a repost then lul. :3

What?

Didn't start skiing till I was 22, mostly started because of the parties you get doing seasons. Couple of years later started noticing people throwing down in the park ( i was reppin some dope straight airs, and thought I was the shit) and got interested. Went on some camps, kept getting hurt, but I never really looked back since. Freestyle skiing is my life, and even now at 31, i can't imagine my life without it.

was just skiing casual since like 10 years, maybe a week a year or if I was lucky 2 weeks. Disliked racers from the start on (they would always close the best slopes ;) ) so this year, I started taking it to the park, bought a pair of twintips there we are :D Since im 20 now, I guess its a pretty late switch, but making the best of it and trying to ski waaaaaaay more from now on :P

i started out as one of those coo kid boarders a few years ago, and mabye went up 4 times a year if i was lucky. one of my friends who was a skier said i should try out skiing, because he had done both and liked skiing way better. i only started skiing around christmas last year, and decided to go into the mini park on my 2nd time ever skiing in janurary and it was love at first shred. i still suck quite a bit at it, but im progressing.

I started out into racing which made me a well rounded skier, but then I some guy got twin tips at my home mountain (small hill) and that was when i got twin tips and started doing rails and stuff, so yeah, thank god that guy had gotten twin tips!

Started when i was like 6...i have to admit i hated skiing then, would ski once in a while not much. And at about 11 my mom bought me some twin tips and i was like "sweet why do they look different though" my mom said that you could ski backwards in them...of course i didn't know how to then. Skied with them that year just hitting side jumps and screwed around like any other 11 year old who barely skied. Then the next year when Jr.high ski club came around i went with that and was like "ima be cool and snowboard like all of my other cool friends" (lol). Well, on my first day of learning i fractured my wrist...which sucked didn't go back on snow rest of the year cuz i was like "screw this". 8th grade went by and just kinda became a gaper doing the tuck and what not think i was pro. But 9th grade half way through the year i did my first 3 off of a 25-30 footer and was just Stoked...loved it since :)

I moved to a place when I was in 7th grade where skateboarding, snowboarding, biking, and skiing were things that people did for fun, not play video games and other lazy shit I would probably be doing if I never moved out of the city. In fact, I really did not enjoy skiing when I started. My friends would always have to pressure me into hitting rails and shit because I was way to scared to go anywhere near them.

Also the first ski video that really got me hooked was Twall's super unknown titled "this is what jesus would look like if he skied" on youtube, then I subscribed to freeskier podcasts on Itunes, and then I started going on newschoolers.

For me, and countless others skiing pow on big mountain is obviosly the best way to go. But unless your one of the lucky few who can ski it everyday, we have to come up with other options. Park is the most common place you'll find me on a bluebirld cordoroy day. But i get on skiin zipper lines at Mary jane all the time!!!

I grew up on a mountain, so I was a skier years before park skiing existed. I raced and skied moguls in those days, and watched ski videos with Glen Plake and Brad Holmes. Finally, my home mountain got a terrain park (snowboarders only), and then a few years later, twin tips came out. Once the park opened to skiers, I learned to hit rails and jumps.

However, I still consider myself a skier, and not a park skier. I enjoy trail bombing, BC and pow, as well as hitting rails and jumps, and I even enjoy taking a race lap every now and then. If you're outside, and having fun with your friends, that's what its about.

I'm still not really a park skier. I learned when I was 5, and did the occasional day on the mountain until this year (I'm 18 now) when I went to whistler. Was so overwhelmed that I really got into the backcountry, but now back in NZ where the only snow near is indoors so want to learn park on the rails and jumps there.

E park is always a flat easy run if u don't hit any of the feature so I'd go down the run and ride off the jumps when little and I'd see my dad go and do a shifty and thought it was the coolest thing ever so I kept trying and got used to big air and stayed in park for jumps and would just hit rails on my way to jumps and now I'm 90% park dooin lincols and 720 mutes and the sickest trick of all... Went skiing with the family for the first time in Colorado 5 years ago. Came back after the week long trip, got a pair of skis for Christmas, built a jump the next day, 360d it, and decided I wanted twin tips. Got the twin tips and it's been so much fun since.

Kids around here have no idea about the twin tip scene. Don't think anyone in my high school of 3000 kids had every skied on twins. Kinda sucked, but I have since converted a few of my friends. I need to move out west. It really sucks here.

I switched to snowboarding for a few years in highschool then saw a video of THall doing some gnarley urban and was like lolwut park skis? Immediately bought a pair. Nowadays you see park skis everywhere but growing up in SoCal I didn't know they existed till I was about 17. Learned to ski switch on carving skis jeaaaaaaa.
