Now the season's over, Boston has the cup for the summer, but it's all up for grabs come autumn. Bump it through the slow summer months as transactions occur

Sens are on pace for the playoffs. They're comfortably in 7th right now, but they could still catch Boston for the division title, theyre only two points back.

But I kindve really want to see a NY Rangers-Senators series. It would be awesome to watch.

I think they can get by Edmonton at least. It would be funny if something like the Gagner incident occurred again. That was rock bottom for the Hawks when they were on their big losing streak.

Rematch against the devils tonight. Can someone explain to a noob why the hell you wouldn't play your currently hot high paid "star" goalie against a team that you're neck and neck with in the standings??? I mean I didn't see the whole game on sunday, it looked like some good goals and not totally bobs fault but really???? Bryz seems to be on fire, why put it your backup??

Hope we can rebound tonight as we could use a couple points.

Oh and fuck tcn and comcast in general. Live 40 minutes from philly, can't watch tonight on local cable. Guess I'm going to the bar.

I actually don't like that deployment strategy - against a trap team one bad goal can be fatal. Against a more wide-open team, you can outscore some problems. I'd rather play the better guy against the stingier team.

On another note, David Poile is a GM magician, having now acquired a quality top-line forward AFTER the deadline for nothing... when they started beefing up with Gill and Gaustad and added scoring in Kostitsyn, everyone I know was somewhat surprised in that "hey, the Preds are clearly gearing up to take a run at this thing this year", because we all figured them for a dark horse. Maybe this was intended to be the cornerstone of the cup run.

Yeah Radulov has one of the best pairs of hands in the world. The Preds are looking nasty. Good goaltending, good scoring, great defense, tough, deep, you name it they're good at it.

The night before trade deadline I had a dream that they traded AK46 for the rights of Radulov.. Unfortunately it was all a dream.

I wonder if they would have accepted Gill + Kostitsyn for Radulov. Probably not, but back then Radulov didn't show any interest in returning to the NHL, so it would have been a pretty risky trade.

Anyways.. I wonder how he is going to pan out in the NHL.

So, predictions as to who makes the playoffs? Here are my projected standings. I have gone out on a couple of limbs.

WEST

1.STL

2. VAN

3. SJS

4. NSH

5. DET

6. DAL

7. CHI

8. PHX

... Because the Hockey Gods can't resist a Canucks - Hawks series. And I think the Sharks win both their remaining games vs. the Stars to pull their own asses out of the fire.

EAST

1. PIT

2. BOS

3. FLA

4. NYR

5. NJD

6. PHI

7. OTT

8. BUF

I just really want to see the Sabres pull this one off. In my heart I think they make it. In my head it's probably Washington. Which honestly would be a decent series regardless of whether they play the Pens or the Rangers given the role-reversal from last year when the Rags were 8th.

Just did some research and it does appear Radulov is good to play in the playoffs if he returns. There was talk he would have to clear waivers but that is not the case.

JD - Really really hope the Canucks don't get Chicago in the first round....would love someone 'weaker' in the mold of Colorado/Dallas/Phoenix/Calgary.

Pretty pumped on the 2 seed though as it will keep us away from Nashville that much longer

I agree that NYR will drop down. They are told to block all shots and sacrifice the body; this took out Ocallahan and if they continue to hurt themselves they will no longer be a playoff team.

I'm going to rearrange the east though.

1. NYR

8. WSH (though we could see a surprise with BUF/potentially the jets?)

While I like JD's because it makes for some interesting match ups, this is a little more probable.

I don't even know that this is the case, man. It's not the case that the top 4 seeds win out every year, in fact there's usually at least one upset. I wouldn't be surprised in the least to see #6 beat #3, for example, in which case, STL gets #6 and we get Nashville or Detroit in rd. 2. On the other hand, I would be surprised but not completely shocked if someone upset the Blues in the first round, simply because the team's core has no playoff experience and their scoring could easily dry up. You can just never tell what's going to happen. Same reason I don't want to say "I want us to play X team" because that's just begging for hockey god wrath.

What does it say that one division, in EACH conference, has the 1, 4, 5, 6 spots? Not only do they have them but it's unlikely that that changes before the playoffs start. Basically each conference has one world-beating division, one division that has one really good team and a bunch of crap (the NW and NE), and one division that is competitive in that everyone's pretty much "meh", despite the fact that there is a team in each that in recent years has been considered a serious cup contender (the SE and PAC). That's a pretty weird coincidence.

Lot of discussion of the potential rule changes - "ringette" line, eliminating the trapezoid (this has to be gone, right?), re-instating the red line, hybrid icing, 3 on 3 OT (please note NHL, everything Babcock says is gospel)...

One rule I want to see is, all penalties are majors. If you get a 2 minute penalty, it does not end when a goal is scored. You get the full 2 minutes. If the PP team scores 3 times, well, quit taking penalties then. I like this partially because it would increase scoring, but it also greatly increases the value of defensively responsible players. The value of "PK specialists" would be much higher. It's an important skill that SHOULD be valued highly. That said the value of this change requires that refs not be assholes and suddenly stop calling anything because "the stakes are too high, it could change the game". Referees fuck everything up.

More realistically though, get rid of that fucking "over the glass" delay of game penalty. Stupidest thing in the game besides the trapezoid.

Amen to that... I don't really understand why that went in in the first place. (was it because that one woman got hit in the face by a puck or whatever?)

I wouldn't want penalties to change to all majors, though. I think the power play is fine how it is. I don't want to see 5 on 5 play diminish any more than it already does when the refs start getting ticky tacky about calls and everyone ends up in the box.

a 3v3 OT instead of the shootout would be awesome though.

The trapezoid is the only rule change they've made since the strike that has opened anything up at all, everything else has leveled out in a year or been coached around in a month.
