I'd say San Jose's inconsistencies are on par with the rest of the league's title contenders. They have been much more balanced on all sides of the puck this year from what I've seen, and their special teams are finally starting to not be the suck as they were early on in the season (I'm looking at you, penalty kill..). They are far more dangerous from the blueline than they have ever been - and that's huge considering their ineptitude the last few years.

That said, the playoffs will show directly how the additions of Burns, Havlat, and Handzus effect the rest of the team. Barring any serious injuries (Havlat, don't let me down again please), I have all the faith in the world that this is the best Sharks team constructed since the lockout year - when we didn't get a chance to use it.

i sure hope marchand gets suspended today. dirty play from a dirty player. when was the last time sami salo did anything dirty that would require a player to "defend" them self in that manner? when was the last time sami salo even made a big a hit? salo is not that kind of player, marchand is a little prick for hurting one of the cleanest players in the game.

I see what your saying and I definitely agree. The NHL Safety offices have been insanely busy this season with the new rules and concussions and shit. I knew some shit was gonna happen during that game.

Can we please end this? It was a low hit, but it's not like he took out the knee or something... I remember Hamhuis dishing out a similar hit during the finals last year in the neutral zone... Yeah, he should have hit him shoulder-shoulder, and yes it was clipping - but I don't feel like it was some scumbag move with downright intent to injure. A 5 min major was awarded. I feel like that's acceptable.

and regarding those other hits, marchand had the puck and was hip checked, in this instance it wasnt really a hip check, he ducked a hit. pussied out of taking it essentially. that puts the player making the hit in a very vulnerable position.

i used to do it when i played hockey because i was a small yappy player and people would take runs at me. i made a guy knock himself out from going headfirst into the boards, it was a shitty play but i learned to sack up and take hits, im sure marchand can too.

you obviously watch very little hockey, someone made a very good point a few posts ago.

The bruins play dirty hockey, so much dirt you cant catch all of it. what does this do? makes the other team retaliate with dirt play and they get caught. its been working for the for a while, its a good way to play for them, it works... still dirtier play than any other team in the league.

Marchand suspended five games, which is the maximum for a phone hearing. I was expecting 3, but the "repeat offender" thing clearly upped it a bit. I don't object to that. I imagine Salo will be out for longer than 5 games - personally I have my fingers crossed that the concussion isn't so severe as to be career-threatening. Dude was playing outstanding hockey for us this year.

The context demonstrates otherwise. The 30 seconds before the hit involved a collision along the boards when Salo pinched to keep the puck in successfully, at which point Marchand punched him in the back of the head. i never said all teams play clean, none do. The bruins just play a far dirtier game and might not get away with it the whole time but it does play out in there advantage because you cant catch everything going on, on the ice with a few refs it just doesnt work. the more shit you start on the ice the more shit thats going to continue throughout a game, just hope the other team gets caught more than you. good thing for them this game plan has been working out for the bruins, im not hating all they are a good team.. very good team and have found an exploit in the system and thats how you win.

btw the bruins still play a bit dirtier than majority of the other teams :)

PK Subban may be the dirtiest player in the league and if not he is top 3.

One of my biggest pet peeves right now in the NHL, is that players and their teammates can no longer take a clean hit without retaliating or taunting the player that delivered the hit.
I'm not talking about the Marchand hit, I'm just throwing something that's been a in my mind for a little while..

no I mean I agree, I am a hockey player and a hockey lover. yes, the Pens are my team but I like hockey for hockey. Physicality seems to be winning games not this finesse garbage with dont get me wrong I love seeing that but physical play will open up your ability to finesse the fuck out of whatever because the other team will be too busy adjusting their jockstraps all game from getting their asses laid out. Sure the Pens have some serious injury issues to deal with but they havent been physical in 4 years and to me that tells me something. We won games being physical and we had less injuries playing physical...

literally blind with bias.

once again a hip check would have implied salo had the puck. marchand ducked a hit, and got very low doing so. just watch the shanahan clip again and put your bias aside for a second, he says it perfectly and the lead up clip really showcases what happens

Clean was the keyword there. However in a few instances I think there should be some relaxation for clean hits depending who hit to, malicious intent, or ithe very sketchy subjective hits where it looked different than it really was.

Datsyuck out tonight with a lower body injury. Hoping it's nothing serious. He plays probably one of the biggest roles in our offense.
