147 pages in the 2010-11 Thread. Here start's next season.

Now the season's over, Boston has the cup for the summer, but it's all up for grabs come autumn. Bump it through the slow summer months as transactions occur

Oh, and to start some tradition: LOL @ Anaheim.

Who's winning the cup next?
Have a nice day, Bluename.

i get to meet Joe Sakic later this month, so fucking excited. by the way, it's his birthday today. need to order a new jersey SOON then if I want it to get it signed by him, should I go with a Nordiques jersey (which would be amazing to have) or just the Avalanche one? I need opinions.

I don't care how many goals he scored, Montreal needs one strong power forward that lets his fists do the talking not his palms. I wish Montreal signed Zenon Konopka, he would've been a perfect fit.

I'm not sure why I said a power forward, I meant a gritty player that can play hockey and drop the gloves while playing on the 3rd or 4th line.
Montreal needs extra grit and someone that can protect the smurfs.

Who would you say is one of the best power forwards that plays for Montreal?

God I hope they go to Portland or Seattle. I wouldn't hate it if they went to Quebec City but cmon... Portland. I wonder if anyone wants to own a team there.

Paul Allen built his arena in Portland with the NHL in mind, and there have been many rumblings over the years about him buying an expansion franchise if the league were ever to expand. He would still be able to own an NHL team there, as the NBA nor NFL would have any issues with him owning another team there (the NBA nor NHL have no issue with it as long as theres a shared venue - see Atlanta Spirit Group, and the NFL has no issues as the team's not even in the same state.

Portland has a metro area population over 2.2 million, which is comparable to Denver (2.5m) and Pittsburgh (2.3m), and larger than Columbus (1.8), and the Immediate San Jose area (also 1.8 - although, the true area including SF and Oakland runs well over 7million)

It's not as large as Seattle which runs over 3 million, but it is larger than the next largest cities in the west with links to hockey, in KC, and Milwaukee.

There's far more people in Downtown Portland that are jizzed about hockey than in Phoenix as well so it seems, and he raucous fanbase that has always existed in the Northwest would easily transfer over to the NHL... as they've sold out WHL junior games in both Memorial Coliseum (12000 capacity) and have also packed it into the Rose garden with over 19000 fans including STANDING room for such an event against Seattle.

Oklahoma City, and Tulsa are also potential suitors, as they've been linked to the Penguins potential move a few years ago, but have been mostly silent since. Oklahoma City and Tulsa, both have much smaller metro areas, both under 1 million less than Portland, so I personally say 'hell no' to this sorta thing.

Houston has also been linked in the past to teams, as they have an NHL ready arena as well as a bit of hockey background, but I see many of the same problems that went down in Phoenix getting bottled up in Houston. They are a massive Population centre too, and would give Dallas a more legitimate geographical rival, but nonetheless, I feel it's just another PHX waiting to happen, really. Portland's growing... Houston's not.

Either way, there will not be a team in Quebec for at least another 4 years, so lets hold that one off until an arena is legitimately in the works...

The Arena's in planning stages and wont even be around until 2015 or 2016. They aren't even going to vote on it in Quebec until the Fall anyways, so we can keep the door shut on that one. End of story.

The only way they get an arena anyways is if Canada thinks it will get the Winter Olympics back within the next few decades and decides to plop them off in QBC.

Sacramento would only work if the Kings moved and an Arena was still built. It's about the same size as Portland so it's got potential (hockey has worked very well in the region in the past as well) I still dont see it happening however unless a lot of things come together just right. Quebec has a better chance, lets just say that much.

Salt Lake City is a definite negative, rough rider. The Arena would need extensive renovations to make it a hockey arena again (as it is, it's in the same Basketball - only setup as Phoenix or Seattle's arenas, and would be absolutely worthless for NHL ice) This renovation would be at the expense of the Jazz who have built it to be for Basketball, and I dont see them being happy with doing that. (Note, this arena was not even used for the 2002 olympic hockey events - it's never really been a hockey arena). It's also a small metro area thats no bigger than Oklahoma city, if not smaller depending on which way you cut it... I dont expect it to be a viable hockey hotbed either.

yea haha. i was mostly joking about slc, it's like 3 blocks of downtown and endless urban sprawl.

but yea, sac would be sweet. however with the sharks already being there i don't see any potential for another nor cal team. at least not for a while, if the kings get a new arena we'll see. i like portland at this point though.

San Jose games are several hours away from Sacramento.. it's exactly as far from Sacramento to San Jose as it is from LA to San Diego...

If there can be teams in both Pittsburgh and Columbus, then with the rapid increase of hockey fans to Northern California, I dont see why it wouldn't work well in Sacramento if there wasnt another winter sport to take most of the fan attention away.

bring back the buds or the buckaroos.
Portland would eat up Pro Hockey in second. and it would make the great rivals with the sharks and the canucks. oh and the rose garden has 18 differant beers on tap... just to let you know.

the radio as of late has been talking about either group buying a team and moving it or Paul Allen.

now there is one problem. Paul Allen Owns the rose garden arena so if a team was to be bought by a group and moved.in .. would be at the mercy of Paul allens prices for using said arena. thats why i feel that Paul allen will buy a the coyotes and move them here... one can hope.. if it does happen i would take off my black hawks jersey and pick up a portland one in a heartbeat. fingers fucking crossed

Actually they have like 23 beers on Tap haha.

But yeah... if Paul Allen isn't involved in a group to buy the team, then I dont know how it would work.

Unless it's Nike or something that buys them... then it would work since all Allen's other teams are sponsored by Nike and there's been a long relationship there.

dang, a week without a post in here?

sharks have re-signed ferriero for i think 650,000 for 1 season, with him being a restricted free agent after that. solid, cause we have him for 1 cheap year, and if he plays well we can re-sign him before anyone else.

I'd say these teams are probably the biggest cup contenders... with all the IF's involved... San Jose - If they make one more big move for a decent scoring forward. Vancouver - If theyre able to make up for the loss of ''Errorhoff'' Capitals - If they show up for the playoffs. Pittsburgh - If theyre healthy Los Angeles - If they keep improving Boston - If they keep doing the same thing. I'd put Buffalo and Detroit in there as honourable mentions, but I dont see Detroit getting past LA, SJ, or Van... and I dont see Buffalo beating DC, Pitt, or Boston
I know I am biased, but c'mon, you gotta put the hawks up there. They are such a solid team with a perfect mix of young players and playoff experience. Ben Smith, Krueger, Bolland played out of their minds in the playoffs and are only getting better, and throw in there Toews, Sharp, and Hossa they have some depth on Offense.Stalberg, Frolik, Bickel are solid third and fourth line players. Seabrook,Keith, ( who is in my opinion one of the best D in the league ) and now O'Donell provide the experience that Leddy and now Lepisto need to get better. Crawford is only getting better as well.

P.S. fuck kane, he doesn't do shit

Crawford is only getting better as well.P.S. fuck kane, he doesn't do shit
I absolutely will not put the Hawks up there as a true cup contender. Period.

Their largest strength in the playoffs in 2010 was their immense forward depth, and timely health. Yeah they absolutely deserved that cup, no doubt, but last year shows you what happens when a team loses so much as they did... Guys like Ladd Versteeg and Byfuglien were the real culprits during their cup run IMO. Yeah, the top guys like Toews, Keith and Seabrook all did the parts they were expected to do, but really it was the 2nd and 3rd line guys who killed other teams, including my Sharks, who at the time were far from healthy and somehow just couldn't keep up with the Hawks on the lower lines (even though they were quite deep as well). Also, the Sharks had an unpolished and rudely patched up Defense... even now I feel we are somewhat unfinished there... and back then, I feel the Hawks were able to use their big guys (specifically buttfuck) to really outmuscle and outplay teams like the Sharks and Canucks. They had a lot more trouble against Nashville and Philadelphia however... due to those teams' larger, stronger defenses.

This last year however, shows you really what the Hawks are. Yeah, they have an awesome core, and will likely make the playoffs again, but are they going to even win their division? I dont even feel they can match up with the Wings in the longrun.

The Canucks, Wings, Kings are FAR more scary to me than the Hawks going into next season, for me...

I'd put the Hawks up there with Anaheim and Nashville as more 'middle of the pack' kinda contenders. It's still possible, but I just dont see it happening.

As always though, this is just my opinion.

Have a nice day, Bluename.

Yeah, because Errorhoff was so successful with established teams in San Jose and Vancouver... lol.
hes alright but even without him we would have a pretty good D. I still feel that we are going to need a couple years to become a real contender. But hey, the sabres are NO. 1 in payroll, this happens to be one of the most exciting starts to a season that I have ever seen.

I personally like the logo's they kind of remind me of a Brampton Battalion type of jersey. Also the to the person somewhere above, the maple leaf isn't a Molson Symbol, last I checked it was on our flag...

However I would have liked to have seen the Arrow instead of the F-18
Its unfathomable how much the people suck there. I can't describe to you the level of stuck up, materialistic fuckery that goes on there - SCHOON

Oh God, that is hideous.
DO.NOT.LIKE

imo they shoulda revamped their old ones with new colour schemes and a bit more updated look.

Oh well, it doesn't really matter what they made the new jerseys look like because most people will rep their old jerseys anyway
Joy is the response of a lover receiving what he loves. This is the joy we feel when skiing powder... This overflowing gratitude is what produces the absolutely stupid, silly grins that we always flash at one another at the bottom of a powder run. We all agree that we never see these grins anywhere else in life.

Still Rockin? w/ the Bruins Beardathon!

Friends, The Boston Bruins are still alive in the NHL Playoffs, and that means I’m getting uglier by the day.
