I've never read one of their contracts. But I'd assume they have the ability to cut a players wage or suspend or anything else like that. but NOT fine him personally for it. they are not the government giving out a parking ticket.

Exactly, it's the equivalent of a parking ticket. If you want to hurt a player financially you suspend him.

I'm not saying hockey players don't get paid too much, you just have to take into account that the money they make has to get spread out because they retire so young and most dont work after

they still get paid an awful lot to play the game they love. average salary is $2 mill. say half taken off in taxes if you're a Canadian player. so $1. maybe the average career 4-5 years. that's 4-5 million in the pocket. that's $80,000 a year to live off for the rest of your life without having to work another day. Plus if you invest and what not then you're living off probably $100,000 a year, after tax. that's amazing. plus if they want more money, nothing's stopping them from working. they can always become a cbc employee
