Corks?

i really want to learn how to cork, i have looked at many other threads and they havent helped, my questions are:

do i need to be able to backflip first?

how do i set the rotation?

how do i make sure i dont land on my head?

and how should i twist my head, to the side or back, and how hard do i lean/bend my head?

and do i need to do a super corked out one my first try, and are there steps to getting a full cork, or is it all or nothing??
i need all the help u got!

every thread i've read says to easy into a full-on cork. progressively drop your shoulder, head more each time you try. i feel like if you do this it'll be so much easier to get your feet back under you after some repitition.

i forgot to mention: I DO NOT have a tramp, access to one, or a pool with a diving board, so those are out of the picture

I disagree... I learned cork 7s on snow (I don't own a tramp unfortunately) and after doing them for a couple years I still can't ever get one on a tramp. You can use your edges to your advantage when doing them on snow, but if you "edged" on a trampoline you'd fly sideways and off the tramp.

Yes definitely learn on Trampolines first. And yes learn a backflip first and a 720 then find the happy medium.

Actually i find if i throw too hard and concentrate on a "cork" too hard it doesn't work and i end up rodeoing or some shit. I find it helps to throw your spin matched with the angle of the lip. so throw the spin on the blue lines angle, don't try to stay up and down like the red line.

from there i find it helps to not force your body to stay upright, let it float into the cork. Corks are much safer than backflips in my opinion. From there i'd say just go for it! Good Luck!

if you weren't addicted to jumping before you could do corks, you will be when you can. everyone should see that diagram above and do that. it works. get stoked!

i havent backflipped and i can cork, so its not neccisary to be able to backflip. but i just kinda throw with the angle of the jump and dip my shoulder.

i got a question too: that diagram really makes sense to me on how to spin with your axis tilted back a little, but then how do you bring it to match the landing, and not land wildly in the back seat?

Yeah for sure i see what you're thinking man. But unfortunately that's not something you really calculate. It just happens haha. Try it a couple of times and you'll figure out how much you need. But it's completely different for every jump how much you need to cork. And in some case you have to swing your legs back under you to land upright.

Just progressively throw your shoulder, follow the angle of the jump and throw your 720
You wont mind getting straight because if you try it on snow you already mastered it on the tramp

i did a cork 5 first, but cork seven is easier to land imo. but a 15-20 foot jump is a nice size to learn on

I learned cork fives today, they are pretty easy. Just throw with the angle of the jump and tilt your head to your left shoulder if spinning left or right shoulder if spinning right. it will just come around naturally. they are so fun!

I would say cork 7 is way easier than 5. And I would try off a 20 foot, poppy jump if you have access to one. Whatever jump you like to throw your normal 7s on would also be a good choice.

thanks guys, one more question; do i lean back for the cork off the lip, or do i throw the spin and lean in the air??

and my head; do i look at my shoulder to threo the cork or further back??

No leaning back at all hombre. Ive never landed a backflip so it isnt that important to have backies. might be better so you dont throw them into rodeos are something. When Im doing a cork I dont carve as hard as some people. I set the spin with my shoulders and thats how I cork it out. So When I go off the jump i look over my left shoulder with my head tucked down left ear to left shoulder. I look back at the takeoff of the jump and just let it bring me around, Once youve found your cork rotation it comes pretty naturally. Just start by dipping your head more and more each try. Knowing 7s is pretty important so you know the speed and spin. Trick tip cult is pretty key too.

my brother learned them by starting out spinning straight and then he got a little more corked out every time so I'd try that and just mess around with it (cork 7)

Just imagine that the lines are your skis. Therefore a cork has a tilted trajectory (Blue line) instead of a normal "flat" one (Red line). Hope I helped!

for a cork do the same approch and takeoff as a 360 but instead of throwing your arms to your waist and at your side. if your spinning left throw your right arm over your shoulder and you should be corking. when your done with your rotation take the momentum from the spin and use it to get yourself upright again

act like you are turning a huge wheel and look over your shoulder, you will probly do a cork 7 first but then you'll get comfortable corking then be able to time it right to land switch

is it easier to do a cork 3, 5, or 7? I've tried them on tramps, and can get a cork 3/5 most of the time. I haven't tried a 7 on skis, but can get them on the tramp (although its way easier on tramps). which one is a good start to corks?
