This. Some kids just take pictures then boost the colors and saturation and it just looks terrible, but for some reason non-photo-educated people LOVE it. Annoys me. I only do minor work in post. I don't ever ever ever edit shots I've taken on film, it completely ruins the nature of it. Unless there is a developing error or the picture NEEDS just a little fix, then I will. Aside from that, film = no go. Digital-wise I'll work with color channels and recovery/blacks all that basic jazz
I'd say it's less non-photo-educated people, and more just uneducated people in general.

When the saturation and masking edits to a photo get more attention than the actual photo content, that's when you know that the audience is just plain dumb to the point where they probably haven't really seen a photoshop before, and that bizarre and unrealistic look to a photo captures their eye.

I like most of you guys really don't touch much up in post. Maybe I'll fix the exposure a little, flip it into B&W, play with the WB or take out some of the iso noise if there is any, but for the most part, I leave it as is. There's no reason fucking with a photo that need not be fucked with.
Have a nice day, Bluename.

just a tip, but for panoramas like this, take them with the camera on its side ('portrait' style, if you will) this minimises the horizontal distortion and will make it easier to stitch (you just need to take more photos)

at least thats what i've been told before and seems to work

And no this is not Instagram,

This is taken with my Nikon F(1) with the Nikkor 50mm F2.
And an dirty unnamed roll of film older then Jesus' foreskin.

Too bad most shots were ruined but this one worked and the contrast is crazy.

This is an awesome shot.

Quick question: where would you (NSers plural) recommend uploading photos to online for decent quality?

I've got quite a few (DSLR...I'm sorry!!) , but I don't really know where to upload them to?

Didn't really want to make a thread about this and apologies for mild thread hijack.

i really need some feedback on this. too much? too little? especially the shot in the dead middle, im not sure if it fits.... thanks ns! Click for larger image
I actually like it, the spacing may be a little bit too close but IMO it looks great i like the fact that you are first drawn to the closest set and then you realize theres a second sequence in the background and also the subject is interesting so it doesn't feel cluttered but instead like things are moving fast if that makes sense?

Nice job man! my only criticism would be IMO minimalism is key when your doing horizon landscapes like this. What i'm getting at is cut off more of the land so that the viewer is focusing on the sky. Right now the land is about 30% of the picture. If it was only about 15%, the sky would really stand out and the picture would be fantastic. great capture tho!

The rule of thirds really isn't a rule, just something to keep in mind. Plus it doesn't really apply to this shot

Care to expand? Always more to learn. I've just always appreciated photos where the photographer made the horizon more interesting in the picture rather than making it a line right through the middle

Rule of thirds is not the only "rule" of composition. It's closely based off of the Golden Section rule. Some info: http://digital-photography-school.com/divine-composition-with-fibonaccis-ratio-the-rule-of-thirds-on-steroids

Here's a recent photo of mine (which does follow the rule of thirds):

thats sick man! i stayed up all night last weekend hoping to see the lights, and no luck :(.

I have read about fibonaccis number, its mazing how many things can apply to that. my question was more towards Thomas's view on the rule not being needed for that photo

This, rule of thirds is SO complicated, it's often over simplifiyed to 'put the subject on an intersection'. Way more applications for it, someone post that desert sand/hills photo reference!

Quick question: where would you (NSers plural) recommend uploading photos to online for decent quality?
throw 'em on dropbox, copy the public link, slap the [img]'s on either end, and you're golden
