A player is like a key that can open a lot of doors that's a good key right? But a whore is like a lock with a lot of keys thats not a good lock, so thats why its good to be a player and sucks to be a whore.

I'm okay with the cool colors, that's personal taste.

The thing that really gets me is your composition. The crop is way higher than it should be. For one the tops of the buildings in the background end up bisecting the frame. Another issue is you cropped the bottom of the QP which gives the awkward sensation that he has nowhere to go when he lands and finally, because he's so low in the frame the height of his jump doesn't appear as impressive. If you had his head above the upper third of the image it would look like he's a lot higher simply based on his perceived weight in the frame. The background is also very busy, using a shallower depth of field to isolate your subject or shooting from a lower angle so the apex of his jump is above your horizon would've helped that issue.

Hopefully that was helpful.

^^^Thanks to you two up there. Means a lot!

thanks, this is helpful, as I said i haven't shot too much sports, and this gives me a jumping point. I am also waiting to get a fisheye or wide angle which will hopefully help with some of that (85mm isn't great for sports haha) I'll hopefully go back to the park and bring back a better photo.

Long lens over fisheye any day, fisheye is so played.

Also, to add onto what max said, it would have a been a lot better if you had gotten lower down and farther to the right. That would put the biker right on the sky which is a clean background so he pops out more. Also, the QP is dead centre which isn't that exciting, rule of thirds doesn't only apply to your subject, 95% of famous architecture shots use the grid in so many more ways, read up on composition, it helps so much.

came here to post this.

zack was that you that posted the 2 videos about composition in skate photography? learned so much from those, and i feel like OP could definitely benefit from them.

OP: i would stay away from the fisheye, and look into ultra wide angles instead. its expensive, but i absolutely love my tokina 11-16

Nah, that was rory (God). But yeah, some of those in focus vids can be really helpful. And IDK, I prefer fisheye for action, I think the distortion can be helpful at times, but you just need to make it original (with your lighting). If I had it my way I'd have an UWA and a fisheye but I'm eventually going FF so don't feel like buying and flipping two $600 lenses.

I'm looking at a 13mm, but on a 5d its basically fisheye, also a 17-40mm would be nice, and yeah ill check them out. i don't really do skate photography, but it would be cool to be good at.

You have a 5d2, get a 15mm sigma or canon. 15mm is full frame fisheye on a FF sensor, anything shorter will have that vignette or is a crop sensor fisheye. Also I can attest to the quality of the 17-40, took some photos with my 24mm the other day and I can't believe I thought it was sharp back in the day.

yeah i waslooking at that, maybe when i get some more. how bad do you think the vignetting would be on a 13mm? i looked at it and it didn't seem so bad but i didn't go deep into it, and yeah may get a 17-40 for my 16th in september, i would be very happy.

Link to 13mm? Never heard of a 13mm fisheye, but that would be 180degrees on a 1.3x crop.

it's taken from stanley park in vancouver. it's kind of tough but i agree some parts look a slight bit crooked, i think that might have been due to error in the tripod levelness when i was panning the camera for the shots

I love the minimalist composition, I wish you'd see more shots with almost 95% sky. Here is another good one. The colours and texture of those clouds is also amazing. Good shot man!

Wow those are actually really cool. I love the ones that are really simple and kinda just colours fading. I would love to hang them on a wall or something, would look so cool. Like these ones:

Some of them look almost like raster graphics or stock computer backgrounds or something. Impressive that it's natural.
