Anyone like to fish almost as much as they like to ski???  I do!  Mostly bass fishing but I just recently got into trout fishing.  Going on my first King Salmon/Steelhead trip on Wednesday...wish me luck!  Oh, and feel free to upload pics of your best catches of the season.

Awesome fishing this weekend up in Vermont.  Had a great hike through Jamaica State Park and fished the shit out of the river.  I've never seen prettier rainbow trout.

This is the base of I believe the Ball Mountain dam.

Such a gorgeous place.  This is why I love adventure fishing.  Even if you don't catch anything but a buzz it's still a great experience.

That was a bass I caught I think in april, really warm weather, mid 80's in NY which is weird. It basically fucked everything up in the river and it was all off balance. Oh yeah and a week later we had a snow day...

I'm glad they're still good numbers of fish there. I saw videos from Irene of Jamaica and there was water water flowing over the bridge to the park.

Yeah the damage is still unbelievable. Some spots are still just enormous rock beds and everywhere has been effected but the fish are coming back.

I love flyfishing for bass with bass plugs. Tons of fun if all the streams around you are too polluted for trout, which is definitely the case when you live 20 mins from DC.
yeah i live near the sierras so not to many bass but everytime i head to ohio, i make sure i have my fly rod

I'm heading out to Banff and Jasper tomorrow. Hoping to catch a bull trout because they're awesome. Hopefully I'll be able to bring back some nice pics. I'm super excited.

Went up north this last weekend and did some smallie fishing. Nothing more fun than reeling in smallmouth after smallmouth.

Hell yes, I've been flyfishing with poppers lately for bass. Super super fun just stripping em across the surface waiting and watching for the hit. I even took my flyrod nightfishing and caught a little smallie at like midnight in the pitch dark. Caught a nice 17" or so largemouth the other day at my buddy's pond too. I could see him coming over to inspect the fly then slowly rise up to the surface just before the hit, he tangled me in the weeds so I just jumped right in the pond in my shoes so I wouldn't lose him haha.

nah not at all man, I haven't looked in here in like months. Ya know there are dates right next to the posts?

Tons of rain here in PA has murked up the waters recently. What's all your opinions on fishing in these conditions. I was gonna flyfish my buddy's pond yesterday but ran out of light, I'm a firm beleiver though that when the waters get cloudy and rough that's when the big boys come out to play. Also that's when a lot of their natural bait is being kicked around?? Anybody ever have good luck fishing muddy water??

I've smashed catties at night in swollen creeks before, but they're not much of sight feeders anyway.

This time of year is rough, so so many weeds everywhere I fish. Id be fly fishing, but once they dive down into the weeds I cant get them out without breaking my line. Still fun to get out though, its just going to make spring fishing that much better

Cheesin hard over a pretty big carp. These bastards fight harder than the catfish sometimes. I may have been a few beers deep at this point.

Here's the pics from our trip to Banff and Jasper in July. I'll just recap some of the highlights. Most of the lakes in between just had little brookies.

Our first hike up to a lake- the lake was filled with little brookies (7-9''), but on the way out I hit the outlet, where the fish were a lot bigger and more aggressive.
This guy stood out since he was so dark. It reminded me of a dolly varden.
Click for larger image
The next pool down had some of the fastest brookie fishing of the whole trip. On my first 3 casts I got these guys:
Click for larger image
Click for larger image
And lastly the clear dominate male of the pool
Click for larger image

That evening we hit the Bow River. The only fish was a little bull trout I got, but I was super stoked to catch it. It's probably one of the rarest fish I've ever caught. It was also the exact same color as the river (which is glacier-fed).
Click for larger image

A few days later we hiked up to Arnica Lake, which was full of westslopes (the only other native trout in the park besides bull trout.) The biggest pushed 17'' (not this one btw.)

My brother and I:
Click for larger image
IMO the best looking one of the day:
Click for larger image
One the smallest ones in the lake:
Click for larger image

The next lake had the biggest brookies of the trip. My brother got one that was 16''.
The lake had slopes and brookies so I kept this guy:
Click for larger image

I think that this was my biggest fish of the trip, about 15''.
Click for larger image

The last lake we fished was stocked with Yellowstone cutts a while ago. Before the trip, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to tell the yellowstones apart from the slopes, but in the park they looked really different.
Male in spawning colors:

A chunky female:

Another nice male:

Overall I was really happy about the fishing this trip. It was better than I expected it to be after the letdown on our trip to the Wind Rivers last year (nothing but little brookies except a few goldens.)
The two most important things to remember are that the best fishing is usually a few miles in and that the biggest fish aren't always in the lake-fish the inlets and outlets, especially during spawning season.

Live feed of a fishladder, alot of salmon is swiming trough right now. Its quite fascinating to watch, the biggest one i've seen was a bit over the measuring scale.

I've been hitting the river a lot lately for steelhead and salmon. The run is still getting started, and I haven't heard of anyone catching a lot yet.
The river is a short walk from my dorm, so it's really easy to get down there after/ in between classes. I've been tying a bunch and I'll throw some pics of my flies up at some point soon.
Hopefully I'll be able to post some nice fish pics soon.

Time to bring this fucker back!

Had a great day fishing yesterday after work. The water was low enough and I was able to scavenge a 2x6" board from the spillway that was long enough to shuffle across a pinch waterfall to the other side, which is rare. Got to scout a few of the really deep holes/upper falls pools and see what/where they were holding and more importantly get a feel for how they flow/hold this year for when the water is back up. Very important as in this area, that's where the fish are 99% of the time.

Also got to walk down the bank below the falls until the point where I would have had to hoof it down the riverbed to get farther, which isn't happening for another week or two when shit's full blown and friends come too. Water can get out of hand quick down there so I don't like to be alone when I do that- and it's behind a fkn terrible ghetto so there's that too.

The good news is the fish are everywhere and feeding like tomorrow isn't going to come. GREAT populations of everything from perch to rock bass to smallies, to sunfish/bluegills, to 4 different kinds of trout caught yesterday so far. I'm going farther downstream today to a deep spot I know of that's accessible from another road across the bridge and down the cliff trails at Indian Leap. If the activity in the shallows is in any way indicative of the behavior of the larger schools farther down, it should be a hell of a time. The shelving of the rocks there in conjunction with the depths and flow create rediculous natural habitat for giant fish at this particular part where that river joins a larger section.

I'll be sure to bring my actual good camera if I can get over there today, it's a really cool spot.

Went fishing on lunchbreak even though the weather and temps are far from ideal and got hammered on. Took a few strikes on some jerkbaits that were so hard they blew the plastics right off the hook. I can still get across the spillway too, which is awesome.

Hoping the rain holds out so I can go to the other side of the bridge and investigate the trenches at Indian Leap.

glad you brought this one back...its definitely about time to start talkin fish.  i've still been skiing almost everyday so not much fishing to speak of.  i did hit the Rio Hondo in NM before heading up to CO for the spring.  no luck though...the water was still pretty cold and really muddy from all the runoff.  since i've been in CO i tried fishing the Snake River a couple of times with no success....same sorta situation.  someone also told me that there aren't many fish where i've been because of heavy metals caused by mines nearby.

anyway, this summer i'll be working at a camp that's on the Cimarron River in NM.  supposed to be a ridiculous trout fishery so i'm pretty pumped to get out there.
