Imagine a laptop with wireless network in a backpack attached to the GoPro camera. If this works, you will be able to stream what you see in real time to anyone who is sitting home and got access to a computer and internet.
I think this could be fun and not just for skiing.
With the new firmware upgrade, you can wirelessly transmit video (with a transmitter) to a computer. Technically it would be possible to have a live stream while skiing if there was wifi all over the ski hill.

any chance this could work? is there any way to run a gopro connected to the house/internet without the battery dying? like if it was set up as a web cam for a week in one location with constant charge/connection?

As of yet I do not know of a hack or any type of homebrew software that allows you to connect your camera to a laptop or desktop and save it directly. That doesn't mean that it would be impossible. I'm sure that someone somewhere is developing a way to do exactly that.
With that in mind there are other concerns. The only way to keep the camera connected via usb is to keep the camera outside of it's protective case, making it very vulnerable to the elements. Also there is the issue of sheer size of the data. Even if you had the camera connected to a laptop the capacity to transmit 1080p over a "live" feed is nearly impossible with current wifi standards.
