So I heard today that the Maldives, which is an island country south of India that was devastated during the Xmas day Tsunami a couple years ago, was considering not rebuilding after the disaster in fear of future rising oceans levels due to climate change and the potential to have all their land claimed to the sea.

Whether or not its true, or if its old info, the idea it presents should be heavily considered. Many cultures in the Southern pacific exist primitively and/or exclusively on islands which will be problem areas if the oceans do rise.

How do you guys think this will effect global demographics or the economy with the potential mass immigration of entire populations from problem areas around the world? Even the New York City area is in a high risk zone...its a global focal point for business and culture!
