In a recent press release, Vail Resorts announced that they would be purchasing Stowe Mountain Resort from Mt. Mansfield Company, Inc. for $50 Million. This will be Vail's first mountain on the east coast.

Rob Katz, CEO of Vail Resorts stated in the press release, "We're thrilled to add Stowe Mountain Resort to our family of world-class mountain resorts. With the investments in both mountain infrastructure and base area facilities that AIG has made over the years, Stowe Mountain Resort has become the premier, high-end resort for East Coast skiers and snowboarders. We look forward to working with AIG to continue enhancing the guest experience and to ensure the resort's long-term success,"

Vail will add Stowe to the EPIC pass for the upcoming season. Having Epic right at home will encourage local Vermonters to take advantage of the pass out west at Vail's extensive list of resorts; Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone in Colorado; Park City in Utah; Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood in Tahoe; and Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia, Canada. Vail followed this same model when they purchased Minnesota's Afton Alps and Michigan's Mt. Brighton back in 2012.
