We’re doing things a bit different this time around. Screw your typical comp coverage… we’re bringing you a comp review of the SJO! We’ll also be releasing some *bonus* video footage over the next little while, once we get thumbs up from certain people involved…
The crew at Big Boulder Parks absolutely killed it. To be perfectly honest, my expectations weren't all that high considering it was an inaugural-east-coast-early-season comp. The crew did a great job of putting together a long course that flowed well top-to-bottom and included a variety of features to get creative on. I really like the fact that Sean decided to include a mandatory tough rail feature (the DFD at the beginning of the course).
The only complaints I heard throughout the day was that if you went deep on the jumps, it was a little tight on space leading into the next feature. Light was also really flat during the finals, which is generally a given when trying to run a comp of this size in one day.
It was literally the best day of the season to host a slopestyle contest. A fair amount of cold weather and snow leading up to the event allowed the park staff to sculpt a pristine course, and we rolled into the parking lot Saturday morning to blue skies, warm temps, and fairly mellow winds.
Sean Jordan, Jon Brogan, Scott Hibbert, and Doug Bishop. Does anything else really need to be said? Even though the judges had to split up throughout the course, the entire crew did an amazing job of taking extensive notes, and scrutinizing over them during the multiple judges meetings.
The Sponsor Hookups
Rockstar Energy was on hand all day hooking up spectators and competitor's up with everything from stickers and hats to copious amounts of energy drink. Under Armour also gave away a bunch of gear throughout the day, and made sure the winning competitors were going home with an arm full worth of UA product.
Screw LVV -- Dylan Malone is the new voice of freeskiing. Dylan not only killed it on the mic throughout the entire day, but he's also the mastermind behind the entire SJO. A huge thanks to Dylan for not only hosting us, but working with Sean to help make an event like this happen. We're already counting down the days until the second annual Sean Jordan Open!

Honestly, what else can you ask for? Everyone was stoked, from the athletes to the parents to the spectators... even the little kids doing front flips off the deck! It was also very clear that Sean Jordan was adamant about this event and spent the entire day running around making sure everything went smooth -- all with a giant smile on his face. It was genuinely one of the coolest competitions I've had the pleasure of attending, and can't wait to do anything we can to help Sean make it bigger and better next year.

tl;dr we went to Big Boulder, PA to hangout at the SJO and had a fucking blast. Shout out to Sean Jordan and his family, Dylan Malone, Scott Hibbert, Fred at Rockstar, and the rest of the crew and sponsors who made this happen. We're hoping to see you all down there next year!
