Cam Zink Lands 100-Foot Backflip at Mammoth

While most of the mountain bike world was throwing whips over screaming crowds at Crankworx Whistler, Cam Zink was hiding out at Mammoth, where the ski area that's hosted the legendary Kamikaze Downhill race was looking to play host to another kind of insanity: a Guinness World Record attempt for the biggest backflip on a bike. And last night at 6:30 PM Pacific time, Cam dropped in, tailed by an assistant to make sure he was clocking 45 mph at the bottom of the in-run, and lofted an enormous, unhurried backflip over a giant cheese wedge made out of fine Sierra dirt, touching down over 100 feet later with a new world record under his belt and a seriously relieved wife and kids.

It's been a big season for big flips this summer, as young gun Tom Van Steenbergen landed his own, possibly world record-breaking, front flip while on a film shoot with TGR and Anthill for our upcoming bike film, Unreal.
