Hi everybody! My name is Alex and im fairly new to this site. pretty much right off the bat, there are all these threads about 'whiggers' and racial things. there was a thread a few days ago that was already long and didnt want to get involved. i just thought, 'hey, this is the internet right? i can just act like im another person who likes to ski, right?' well, after close to a month, its really getting to me. shit, is everyone here so sheltered in little ski towns that a black person is so much different? that only black people can listen to hip hop or-or- shit! i dont know, im just so fucking frustrated! i mean, its just a bunch of racism! all these stereotypes and people hating a certain skier cause he always has hip hop for his segment and then hes a w***er. i mean come on! its really tough! i wanna through something in now that few people saw on the pro war thread. i really flipped out. i mean who cares, thats just how raps acts, and by the way, Evan is from 'the city', while he probably came from a really good part of Long Island or something, he is from NYC and probably has had more exposure to different cultures and races than a lot of the people who are hating on raps. whatever, i just wanted to say this because im already feeling kinda uncomfortable. thanks

Anyway, I don't think there's too much racism going on. Mainly, I think people get pissed when white guys try to be black. No ones hating blacks, or whites... its the people who aren't able to accept their own heritage. Almost everything is in good fun, anyway.

You know what frustrates me. People who the white people shouldn't listen to hip hop and follow the hip hop culture because they are white. Thats the worste stereo typing I've ever heard. I don't see why you're uncomfortable here. There was a post on racism, but it was a discussion. There was absolutely no hatred in that thread, just a discussion on people's opinions on how things are, and how some people think it should be. It's true, that a lot of people around here haven't been subjected to a lot of different races and cultures (i'm pretty sure there are 4 african american's living in my town), and it's just interresting to hear about what other people think about sensitive subjects like racism..and all sides of it. It's not a matter that we ourselves are racists and think blacks/natives are so different from ourselves, for the most part, we were speaking generally for what we've seen in the news, in music videos, on the site and just going about our daily routines.
Frankly..if you can't handle these discussions, then don't read them. Don't be so sensitive to everything. A lot of the more serious issues we discuss here are pretty important and should be discussed...you'll learn a lot from them. Which is way better then just pretending there's nothing wrong.
As for things like 'white people can't listen to hip-hop' and 'wiggers', that's just stupid and i personally ignore it. You can't stop people from saying it, so don't let it get to you.

Expressing your feelings, right or wrong is healthy. We are all on a computer so if you feel uncomfortable with certan topics, just don't click on, go somewhere else. The web has many skiing sites for your enjoyment. Make a ski site with a forum that works as well as NS but you don't allow certain topics. What makes this site so nice is the freedom we all have say what we want be it truthful or some sort of fantasy. Skiing is much like this site on the slope we get to feel free and our spirits get a lift. So enjoy the site or kindly go somewhere to be told just how far you can go.
