why park riders cant do shit on big mountain?

has anyone noticed that alot of riders that ride only in the park can barely make a turn in the steeps? whether it be airplane turning down a couilar or a clift out technical line, or even just fluid pow riding, they seem to allmost forget how to ski. Maybee park folks should get out and ride some pow on that bluebird, instead of spending half the day trying to land a 1080 and make sure it looks sick so they can post it on this site and brag about it. I am on the fence what do yall think?

i agree. but a lot of park skiers just don't have access to that powder you're talking about. especially east coast skiers.
i've been skiing 13 years and just got into park the past couple years and am confident in saying i'm a pretty good all around skier.

i can do it all, well maybe not 1080's but love the park love the steep and deep and can carve too but the main reason is that park riders are mainly only park riders and havent done much skiing other than park, poor dudes some havent ever done any pow at all well too bad for then

i think we are seeing this more now of days cuz people are taking up skiing cuz they are seeing the x-games and all the skiers at their local hills toss down and thats what they want to do. they aren't seeing the guys in the BC ripping the big lines with the mandatory 30-40 foot clif out. they need to take some time and wonder why in ski movies it used ti all be big mountain ( cuz its a blast!)

i hope the person that posted this does not think he came up with this thought..

but my 2 cents on this.. most of the top park skiers can ski big mountain. maybe not like hugo, but they can ski well all around.

i think that its just stupid to say that someone like tanner sucks outside the park, he and most of the other pros can rip outside the park. they just get paid more to ski in the park. (they are skiing where the money is, and as they get older they will probably ski more bc

Ppl get hooked on the park, the ppl you guys refer to that cant ski all-around ae ppl who believe it or not arnt that into skiing. even east coast riders can get sum all-around/big mountian skiing going, i no il stay in the park one day during the weekend, and ll over the mountain the rest of the weekend, besides if u can ski anyhitng it will help u in the park

i think its that park skiing does not develop ur skiing skills taht well, u have to be pretty good at skiing backwards and obviously pipe requires good edge hold, but other than that u dont have to be an exception 'skier' to ski park. I would say it had more to do with gymnaastics.

I know east coasters dont have the big mountian access, but I was refering to just basic skiing riding, not just big mountian, my freind who skis mainly park fumbles through pow and trees, and resort crusing. You can still cruise out east and you still use form and style when cruising, my point was that so many skiers/riders just want to jib and huck it doesn't matter that there edges are fucked becasue there not using them anyway! I am just saying maybee its time we all get back to the roots of it all the MOUNTAIN... I like how new ski porns are focusing on intergrating freestyle/park with big mountian tech moves off smaller cliffs, tight lines, switch cliff hits etc. I still ride park when no pow is around, and understand that its all some people want to ride, but it is nothing without your roots!

I think being able to do everything is really cool. Granted, some may say it's better to do one thing all out than a bunch of things in a mediocre fashion. However, I'd rather just kick ass in all of them. That's not to say that I do, but that is definitely my objective.

i have learned to not care if someone cant ski outside the park. park skiing is a style of skiing just like racing, back country, or even riding groomers. they are just doing what there skill is. so i have learned to not care if they cant get out of the park. cause not everyone can ski park too.

and it doesn't even come down to just pow skiing. a ton of park rats like someone said earlier can't even kill a simple line through some crud/bumps/trees/ice when the snow is not so decent. a truly good skier is able to rip, despite the conditions. you know it when you see it, and undoubtedly park skills do not transfer well into anything other than groomed terrain.

hell yah it makes loadsa difference so many park rats in europe rock outside the park as well, cos the majority of peeps here have been brought up racing / moguls then switched to park later on (its only relatively new).... however when i ski in america Im surprised by the relative poorness of a lot of the park skiers in the all-mtn scene (and this is only on average). you gotta check some euro cats out like candide - the guy kills it bc and also park.

ps. to the guy who says tanner rips it outside the park, i hope your joking. he does not

for real tell me when theres pow on the east coast... ill be the first to admit i ride park hardcore and usually am in there all day and people would refer to me as a park rat. im sorry that i enjoy that form of skiing. but dont tell me im a shitty skiier that doesnt know how to ski i grew up skiing at a small mountain named berkshire east in northern mass. no offense to anyone who skis there but the place is literally a sheet of ice. skiied there since i was 2 for 8 seasons every weekend straight. dont tell me that i dont know how to ski just because i adore the park. believe me if i had some back bowls full of pow pow or even any type of BC whatsoever i would be hitting it up but sorry i live on the east coast come over to the east coast and tell me i cant ski for real dude you probably live on the west coast and have never skiied ice before in your life im sorry i havent been spoiled on the west coast and do basically the only thing i find fun and exhilirating on the east coast. oh trees are fun too. yeah but dont tell me i cant ski.. fucker

yea i think most park skiers arent to well rounded because freestyle is associated with park on the east and besides that we have no back country...so the kids start off learning park...when ur in park u dnt really need to carve turns or have the real motions as long as u aim urself at teh jump...ive skied since i was 2 and i didnt start going into the park till about 4 years ago so im pretty confident in my skiing but some kids start of learning in a park figure out how to aim themselves and hit jumps and rails

you pow skiers dont understand...i ride park 90% of the time. when we get new snow im right in the trees. but that doesnt happen often because of location. i would take any nice pow day over the park here.....but if i lived out west i would be like 75% park and hit up alot of big mountain too

yeah i understand what your saying ive been skiing since ive been 2 and was on a freestyle team and one of the head coaches used to be on the pro mogul tour so he hated us just becoming just park rats so i did moguls and trees alot this is the first year ive become a full fledged park rat and i know what you mean about kids who cant turn outside the park... me and my friends made a video last year and showed it to some kids in our school so a bunch of kids are now taking up newschool skiing without even knowing how to ski so yeah

All new kids in the park these days... there terrible skiers... im not a terrible skier outside park just cause i did normal skiing for 9 years of my life before i started skiing park and im sure its the same for alot of people... but the kids these days they just start skiing and they just ski park... and cant make a single turn in between jumps

i could stomp a 7 on the worst ice the east coast has to offer, i can also do it into 3 feet of pow. the only difference can relate to urban jibbing. did you shovel the staris off or leave the snow cover.
when west coasters come out here they shit their pants and go home

I see the same thing at Snowbird. So many little kids hit the park instead of taking advantage of the sick terrain that they have. Poor little kids look lost outside the park.

Skiing big terrain (if you have access to it) develops your ski muscles (quads, hamstrings, core muscles) so much more, and helps you to be able to ski anything.


We gonna whack it til the wheels fall off.

yah dogg i think everyone is kinda missing the point which is that nobody's dissing east coasters who only ski park cos thats the only decent shit you have - you should still be able to ski all - mtn as well. and what people are dissing is west coasters who could be skiing big lines and pow if they really wanted but instead stay in the park 24/7; which isnt a bad thing in itself, but it is if they cant ski for shit on the rest of the mtn.

its upsetting to see people saying that thalls' part in yearbook is big mountain. all he did was make a few sloppy turns up to a cliff and drop off. big mountain skiing is about charging lines, being fluid and adapting to the changing conditions. i like watching what he does but I have yet to see skiers like him look good while skiing anything but a few cliff drops or backcountry kickers. mark abma stepped it up but nowhere near the league of kids like seth and hugo.

center mounted skis don't work in the backcountry

why do you people worry so much about what other people are doing? in skateboarding, bmx, probably rollerblading, & any other sport along those lines don't give a fuck if you can do it all or just one aspect of it

example: people that mt. bike such as down hill don't talk shit on people that ride bmx and only ride park, street, dirt, or flatland they could give a flying fuck if someone else can't do what they like to do so why should any of you care what other people are doing? why can't you just be content with what you like to do and stop worrying about everyone else. look at it this way more pow for you
