Sir Francis Bacons

Hi all.

I just got hit up with a great offer on some brand new 184 2016 Sir Francis Bacon. I was going to save for a while and get some 108 kartels , but for the price I'm having a hard time passing up on the Bacons.

I ski about 60%park and 40% all mountain, but that's because I skied on a tiny Midwest hill where the park is the only thing worth doing. This year I'm moving up north to Mr. Bohemia, which has been compared to skiing out westm

I plan on shifting more towards all mountain skiing, but I'll still be hitting some rails. My only fear with the SFB's is that the edges and bases will not hold up to some casual park skiing. Should I wait and get the kartels? Or will the edges on the Bacons hold up and I should take the deal.

All opinions and knowledge are welcome.

It really depends on how hard you're going to push it. I can 100% say you will not have an issue with ON3P Kartel 108's no matter what you're doing. Line just doesn't have the same build quality that our lord and saviour ON3P has. That being said since you are moving to primarily all mountain, so the SFB would probably treat you nicely. If you got a sweet deal on the SFB's I'd say go for it. I've heard that some of the recent ones aren't as fun as the older ones?? (Clarify someone!). Anyways, it is really up to you! I'm sure you'll make the right decision for your needs.

I've heard that as well. I'm a little bit worried about making the transition back to line after skiing on moments for 3 years now. Thanks for the help.

If you've been on Moment sticks for a while, then going to line might be a bit iffy. I'd reckon' that you should go for the ON3P. The quality is unmatched. Good luck saving!

Thanks man, I checked them out and unfortunately they are sold out in the US.

Although I did find their lumberjack ski to be similar to the surface outsider, and it's a design I really like. And I can't really beat the 450$ price.

Old SFB's are fun and have a progressive flex made with Maple. The new ones people say they are not as fun and break often.

I spent the season on 2016 SFBs an they are brilliant, brilliant skis for powder, back country & big jumps. Felt like a pro-skier every time I put them on.

However I took them to the park for one day (only hitting basic down rails) and they got pretty battered. Also saw some serious tip-delamination when catching a tip on a groomed icey landing. Wasn't too impressed with the build quality if i'm honest.

If you want to ski park a lot and keep progressing then I wouldn't recommend then. However for the powder/big mountain you can't go wrong. They're amazing light and float beautifully.
